Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You guys know, in years to come, we're gonna look back on this and remember it the way other generations remember the Moon Landing.

    This. Is. Epic.

    EDIT:

This might actually be Willie O'Dea's proudest moment. It's marvellous.

I have to say at least he ****ing got the joke.

I also loved blindboy taking the piss out of the radio edit and explaining the horse looked like billie piper after a big bag of hilarious jokes.

Blindboy's explanation of subtext was great too, it was as if he was talking to a child, and rightly so, the other guy completely missed the point of the video.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,090 ✭✭✭jill_valentine

Seriously, fair play to Willie, he held his ground - and rightly - throughout. I've come away with a lot more respect for him than I had before, particularly given the Rubberbandits previous um... tribute to him.

The first few seconds as Joe tried to figure out what to make of Blindboy were fabulous.

Willie seems to just be using it for a bit of publicity, but yea, at least he got the joke etc.

I love when one of the members of the band comes on and explains about art and subtext. He controls the other members of the conversation very well as well.

"We all know Willie is a legend, he's only provin' it now like"

Just listened to that liveline... dear God, some of the best radio I've heard.

Fair play to Willie and Blindboy. I'd say Willie's probably raging that this hasn't happened closer to the election - might get him a few more votes!

    Willie for Taoiseach!

The Canadian indie-rock equivalent of the aul' knickers-at-Tom-Jones routine?

Nah, I was volunteering with Partners In Health - you may have seen our GIANT YELLOW T SHIRTS - and while we were working, we left all our stuff in some flight cases. Afterwards, I got my bag and coat, and we packed up and sent everything on it's way. I only noticed I was minus the hat when it was too late - ie. as I was walking home with the snow crapping down on me - and the PIH folks since got back to me to let me know they'd found it when they were setting up in Birmingham.

I still have their tambourine if you want to use it as leverage.

Looking through Tinymixtapes: Top 50 of 2010 some good choices, I noticed "The Monitor" creeping into yet another list so I had a listen to the this....

I've either missed out big on this band or I'm placing too much faith in them based on a good single. Is the album worth checking out?

I just heard Kings of Leon's tour bus caught fire in the UK. It really does look like their sex was on fire.

    ZIIIING!

Anyone pick up any music-related presents this year? I got my dad Cee-Lo's new album, Deerhunter Halcyon Digest for my brother and Best Coast's for other brother. The bros also got tickets for Deerhunter.

I got Grinderman 2 on vinyl and a Bob Dylan book for my Dad. Looks pretty cool, you get the LP, a 16 page booklet, poster, and CD copy of the album. Got The Rubberbandits' single for my friend as part of a Christ Kindle present. Got Interpol's new album for my sister's boyfriend too.

I gave out a sizable list of albums when the "what do you want for Christmas?" requests were going around, I'm hoping to have a tuneful crimbo myself too :)

I don't think I've picked up any music presents for anyone in my family except for the latest Imelda May cd for my mum. I've made a list of plenty for people to get me but half of it is stuff I already have on ipod, the rest stuff I've not got to listen to yet.

I picked it up last night, it's actually pretty damn good.

It's definitely aiming to be "epic", the entire thing is based around using the American Civil War as metaphor for the present, and it's full of guest spots from bands they are friends with (double dagger, hold steady) ala Double Nickels on the Dime.

It just works, even during the spots when it gets sloppy and the singer sounds like he's had one-too-many.

    Highly Recommend it.

Anyone get any CDs for Christmas?

    I got;
Best Coast & Kanye West(Had both downloaded already).

Matt & Kim, These New Puritans, The Mighty Stef (Hadn't heard these albums before now).

    .

I got Kanye West, Klaxons and the Roots.

Klaxons seems abit similar to the first album.

Klaxons seems abit similar to the first album.

Really? From what I heard it was madly different, like they were trying too hard to deviate away from the 1st album's sound to avoid the sophmore slump.Regardless, I don't like them.I got a guitar that is a few years younger than my father.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,026 ✭✭✭homerun_homer

Yeah I don't think Klaxons album is like the first. It's heavier for the most part and not as varied in pace. The EP they released for free online on xmas day from their abandoned James Ford sessions is more different and slower paced.

    God that would be awful.

I just get angry listening to that station during the day. They call themselves Dublin's best indie but get away with playing Ellie Goulding and ancient Arcade Fire/MGMT tracks.
Far better a little bit later in the evening.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,373 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

There are a few very good shows on it Twee just takes a while to find em. Also don't bear any hate to the Dj's the get very little say in what they can choose to play.

I do think it's a bit of a wind up though...

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,722 Mod ✭✭✭✭Twee.

Ah I know, sure business is business. I did some work placement in a major label and they just call up, do a bit of sweet talking and there's their artist's song on the radio, every station, at the time they want. For example that week they were promoting a new Westlife track, so they wanted it played at lunch time when the wimmins at work would most likely taking a break and have the radio on, or mams heading off in the car to pick up the kids from school. You scratch my back etc.

Yep, it's annoying alright and i do feel for the good DJ's out there that have to get on with it.

Did you get much snow over your way? Maynooth is pretty good this time. Guessing you're ok too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,883 ✭✭✭smokedeels

Don't Dublin City FM accept proposals for show ideas?

Is there an decent Indie/Alternative show on that station?

I'm well out of the terrestrial-radio-loop, I listen to the Far Side on Phantom sometimes, that's about it.

I haven't liked a thing they've released post-Pinkerton, we should do a collection for this....

New campaign attempts to raise money to pay Weezer to split up

the originator of that petition has now stopped.

tbh as much as i hate post matt sharp weezer i don't want them to break up, they look like they are having fun and in fairness that's all i'd want to be doing if i was Rivers and the gang.

More power to them, they made a couple of decent albums then done a bunch of stuff I avoided, they can carry on doing their thing, I'll carry on ignoring them and giving the earlier stuff* the odd listen.

Just thought the petition was "lol worthy".

*I can't believe I used the "earlier stuff" line :o

Guys! You guys! LCD Soundsystem are the unwilling sneering public face of the entire Illuminati conspiracy!

I should warn you, the sheer truth contained in this link might just blow your mind right out.

This website might be previously known to you by it's only slightly less marvellous take on The Suburbs video, which I now realise is actually a powerful metaphor for Win-and-James' schismed and doomed bromance.

My God, I love crazy people on the internet.

    Make me stop laughing, please.
    These crazy people are hilarious
The bully is a closeted gay who’s trying to reenforce his ‘manhood’ by beating up the boy he’s actually attracted to. It’s a display of the suburban facade and what lies underneath.

Martial law is being used to say that individuals who run from the cities and into the suburbs are actually joining a sort of police state willingly, and when there’s any kind if minor problem they run to their oppressors despite past experiences.

Frankly I’m sort of surprised people here are totally missing the message.
