Hey. My employer in the US has agreed to make a H1-B application for me this year. It's a small company so they have asked me to research the process.

I know that there is a new online registration process being used this year where they collect minimal information at first (Employer ID Number, Location, my country of citizenship, and whether I have a higher degree or master from a US institution, passport number). They pay a $10 registration fee and we will find out on March 31st if I have been selected. If I am selected, a lawyer can file a petition starting April 1st.

My question is whether an immigration lawyer is needed for the e-registration? It all seems like simple information but I also don't want mistakes to be made. Can anyone or give general advice about the process.
