Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Would like to know if anyone here is going to the World Cup , how much has the whole thing cost you , what's the breakdown of costs . Flights, tickets, hotel , spending money etc . And how unsafe would it be over there ?

    Anyone?

I'd say it'd be perfectly safe if you are sensible, stick to the tourist area of the cities for hotels and socialising, do any inter city travelling during the day.
There'll doubtless be a few Panorama type programmes in the next few weeks highlighting one or two nasty suburbs and their huge murder rate and epic levels of general violence, much like what got churned out for Poland and South Africa (and every preceding competition that wasn't in a nice safe Western Europe country).

I'm going. I'll be staying in Salvador for most of it. I'll be crowded in a small apartment with 5 others and staying in a hostel in Rio for a week prior to this. Accommodation coming to about 500 euro altogether, although if we were to stay in Rio it would be a lot more. Flight is also rather cheap, 700 euro, although thats one way and has a ****load of stopovers.

You have any match tickets OP?

Im going for 2 weeks. Flying into rio for 4 nights Jun10 till Jun 14 have an apartment rented in copacabana sleeps the 4 of us for 100 each. Fly up to natal on june 14 staying in a place called praia de pipa 70 miles from natal. I own an apartment there so obviously those 10 nights accomadation wont cost me. I have tickets for usa ghana jun 16 and greece japan on jun 19 both in natal.
Flights cost me 1400 thats dublin to rio, rio to natal and natal to dublin.
Accomadation 100 for rio. Praia de pipa accom for 10 nights would be approx 300.
    Tickets 200.
Spending money Id budget for about 100 a day (max)
Ive been to brazil 6/7 times and never come across any hassle. Ive been to Rio twice an amazing place obviously you dont go into the favelas. I found it a very safe place its like everywhere just be sensible.
Cost wise the exchange rate is now very favourable for europeans. Rio is a good bit more expensive than natal( praia de Pipa). In rio a beer is approx 2 euro with food much the same as here. Where I will be in Pipa its a euro a beer and approx a tener for an excellent meal.
The press like to sensationalise these things some of the things Ive read about costs are nowhere near the truth. Not sure if your thinking of going if you are feel free to ask any advice.

I'm going the end of May for 4 weeks through my job. Just coincidence with the timing. Will be staying in Rio for the duration. Won't cost me a dime. It's a Government/law enforcement cooperation thing so I'll be hoping someone with a bit of pull can swing a ticket to one of the games. Not sure how freely they'll be available to buy publicly.

belgium russia and ecuador france is currently showing up as having avaialable tickets on the fifa website. Dont think this will be up long as last time I checked there was no rio tickets available. Couple of games in belo horizonte available aswell one on a saturday which could be worth a trip.

I know one game that will have tickets available- Bosnia v Iran. We were randomly assigned them and had our heads in our hands after seeing the draw. You can hardly give them away.
