Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Guys,

Just after reading this mad long thread about buying ebooks from the UK store, but tell us, is there actually much of a difference in the prices between the UK and US stores?

Not really, there's a pedantic annoyance about reading US spelling though :pac:

    I have a few questions...

    1) Are the majority of books on the .com website available to Irish customers or are the majority not available to Irish customers?

    2) Is there any way to find out before you buy a Kindle? For example, I don't have a Kindle yet but can go onto amazon.com Kindle store, and click ''buy now with 1-click'', then it asks me to put in credit card details. Would they have told me by now that it wasn't available to Ireland or do they tell you that after you've put in your details? Hope that makes sense!

    3) Also, is buying from the .co.uk site really as easy as changing your address on amazon.co.uk to a UK address and downloading the books through your laptop?

Does anyone know how to share/lend a book between Kindles please? The instructions say to go to Manage my kindle, but I can't figure it out.

    Flyaway:
    1. The books I wanted were not available on the .com site, so it was not a question of cost with me.

    2. Go onto the amazon.co.uk site > Kindle store > kindle ebooks and then in the 'search' box put in the title you are looking for. You don't need to be registered or logged into Amazon to do this.

    3. Yes, it's as easy. You don't need to download to your pc, as your Kindle has wifi and you can download directly to the kindle, but you are given a choice when buying as to where you want ebook downloaded to. You can also download to the kindle App on iphone and have your books on kindle, laptop and iphone, and read your book on your phone if you forget your kindle!

Post Restante is a world wide system where you can have letters etc. sent to you for collection at a named post office. I live not too far from the border and have used this successfully to collect a Kindle in Eniskillen and other items in Belfast. The post office normally keeps for 5 days.

If you can get an ebook onto your pc, you can get it onto your Kindle, so really you have lots of options, without needing to rip anything off. There's a great, free, programme called Calibre that you can you can use to manage your books and even convert them into the right format for your Kindle if they aren't already that way. Highly recommend it.

If you like your classics, the Magic Catalog is a must have. It's a an ebook consisting of download links to hundreds (thousands?) of works on Project Gutenberg. All free, all kosher. (Non-kosher methods are available, but that's up to you.)

just looked to download Bear Grylls "Mud, Sweat and Tears", in the US it works out at 15.14 euros, from the UK it comes in at 5.05 euro, but if i fancy the hard back version it will set me back 13.61 euro from the US, work that one out....

    Hi guys,

I'm working on a story about how Irish customers can only buy their Kindles from the US site and not the Amazon.co.uk site, this means that their account is then pre-set to the American store and means that you can only buy books from the Amazon.com site. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Are there ways around it? Would you be willing to be quoted in a newspaper? Thanks for your help!!

I buy eBooks from many other sites such as Smashwords.com. I never buy from Amazon because they treat us like crap in sending us to the US site. They won't even sell us the Kindle device!

Tescos sell the kindle touch for €129 and the normal kindle for €109. Works out way cheaper than amazon.co.uk or .com.

Wifie bough a kindle touch today and asked me to set it up so she could buy from amazon.co.uk. I thought I'd share the steps I took to get her up and running. I pretty much did the same thing as the o.p. However I took a few shortcuts and it still worked.

    1. Set up a second account (using a uk proxy)
    2. Sent a gift cert from wifies main account to the second account.
    3. Applied gift cert to second account. (still on uk proxy but not sure if that is necessary)

Now here's an interesting bit. The UK proxy I was using (davesproxy) started messing up amazon pages so I stopped and reverted back to the irish ip. The books which were not available before suddenly became available. I *think* amazon sets your location when you first sign up. Thats the only thing I can think of to explain what just happened.

    4. Bought first book. I was asked for an address. I used a friends address in the UK (with his permission).
    5. Registered up wifies KT to the second account.
    6. The book instantly synch'd and downloaded.
    7. Following purchases just work and dont require you to re-enter the address.

PS in step 4 please note, if you don't have any friends/family in the UK, please try to get out more :D Only kidding, I'm pretty sure any reasonable address with a valid UK postcode would work.

    Just thought I'd share.

    D.

From reading some other posts on here, I suspect I'm going to get an e-mail from amazon asking to prove the address. Let's see what happens.

Try Argos too - bf got his there for the same price as Tesco. You can check online in advance too. The Jervis Street branch has over 5 of both the Kindle and Kindle Touch currently.

I setup my wife's Kindle last Christmas with a uk address and purchased a number of books successfully. A few days later she got emails asking her to verify her address which we ignored. In the meantime she has managed to download to her kindle wirelessly using amazon 1-click. Last night she had a problem purchasing from .co.uk site. I can't remember the message but something to the efect of the books not being available in her location. Today I purchased a free book for her using daveproxy.co.uk without any problem using the 1-click method.

My question is: Is there a risk using a proxy of leaking credit card details? The credit card details are stored with amazon which allows her to purchase using 1-click so I dont think this information is being sent around the world but rather is just stored on the amazon server.

    Any views?

I'd be interested in knowing this also

You can't buy books from the uk store if you live Ireland unfortunately. Not while using an irish ip address to connect anyway. You can try using a vpn or similiar service which will make it look like your order was placed from a uk ip address but amazon have blocked most of the uk ip addresses for such services.

I can from my ipad but can't when I go through my laptop, both on the same wireless network. The ipad was bought in the uk if that makes any difference....

I was getting away with that for a while, but they've now stopped me buying from them at all until I verify address - I stupidly used the Kindle app on my phone which obviously gave my Irish IP. To be honest, I don't know if I can be bothered anymore, messing around with a proxy and all. Think I'll just give in and buy from .com site.

It seems Irish Kindle users can now transfer their amazon.com account to amazon.co.uk
