Good if you're buying one pack at a time. I bought mine though Amazon after spotting on hukd. Worked out at €4.21 per packet so a massive 43c saving per pack.

I'd say the producer of these and the machines have a big push on this time of year because the machines can be given as gifts and you're more likely to give a gift where the pods seem good value.

It's cheaper again on Amazon of if you subscribe to refills and then as soon as your order ships cancel subscription.

They had it in the Tullow store in Co Carlow but not the one in Carlow town. You'd be better off checking a few stores.

Not as bad as that.. Little frothy and different taste to the Costa but not like frogs piss or anything

I'm not into Morning Coffee either, it's like having a cup of Maxwell House. If I'm opting for a cheaper cup I usually go for Kenco Columbian but my favourite is Costa Latte.

Fill it up, get a pint glass under the nozzle and with the yellow disc in, hold the button in for 3-5 seconds. This will put it on a longer clean cycle. Takes about 15-20 minutes and will use almost the whole reservoir, so keep an eye on it.

If you do live in a hard water area, you will need to add some form of descaling additive. I haven't, and have had my machine since the original launch BA on here.

Euro giant have descaling tablets for 1.50 for pack of 6. I used baking soda and lemon in 500ml of water to descale mine.

Mix 2 tbsp lemon juice with 1 tbsp of baking soda in 500ml of water. Make sure it's at least 500ml or the descaling will finish early and you'll have to redo it. Put this solution into the water reservoir. Insert the yellow cleaning disk and hold down the brew button for at least 3 seconds. The green and red lights will start flashing and it will run the descaling cycle which takes around 20 minutes. Obviously the 500ml solution will run through the machine so make sure you have a container large enough to take this volume under the spout. Run a normal cleaning cycle a couple of times afterwards to flush out any remaining solution.

Can't see why you would mix them Citric acid + Sodium Bicarbonate produces Co2, Sodium Citrate and Water. Sodium citrate is good for binding calcium ions but it will be much less effective at removing calcium carbonate deposits than lemon juice on its own.

Most Cork water is incredibly soft; the city water from iniscarra is practically rainwater something around 20mg/l it would take years before you'd need to descale if ever. It was 450-600mg/l in my old house in the midlands I had to descale every 6 weeks.

I'm going by a mix I found on the web, I'm no chemist but it worked for me. Also, I have never had a problem with hard water on anything else in my home and never had to descale anything else but the descaling light lit up one day on the Tassimo so I ran this solution through it and it stopped lighting up. When I examined the expelled solution after the process, there were a handy few lump of a hard deposit present so the clean did remove something. It didn't cost me anything but one lemon and 20 minutes, which I don't have a problem with.

Carte Noire latte macchiato caramel reduced to 1.65 in Tesco

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,152 ✭✭✭✭Berty

I was getting very close to the bottom of my Costa Latte supply and thanks to HUKD I've gotten a good few for less than normal.

Amazon have 5 x Costa Latte for £20 so 80 pods (others available at different prices) and you can also put in OCT4FOR3 in the Coupon box if you buy 4 and you get them for the price of 3.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008OQBYAC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

I used the Subscribe option for 5% off also. It's good value because neither Dunnes or Tesco have them on offer right now.

Just to note the Costa Latte's are only €4.35 in Tescos a pack. Regular price.

They were the lower price in Tesco's, Ballincollig Cork yesterday.

Must be a new smaller pack. I saw the Tesco website definitely listed 8 in the pack and the Amazon one was the larger pack. We'll see what Amazon send me. Marginally cheaper at €3.95 a pack and I bought 20 packs essentially. :D

That's 4.5 months or so at 1 per day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,073 ✭✭✭sok2005

Yeah, I think there's less packaging in the new packs. They've made the milk part tidier but as far as I know they make the same size drinks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

I got my delivery of Tassimo Costa latte and caramel latte today and have already organised a return because of the awful taste of the "new recipe" drinks with the smaller milk disk. they taste watery and a bit soapy, nowhere near as good as the ones they replaced. Looks like I will be switching to Nespresso or going to the nescafe Dolce Gusto

Just noticed that they have only refunded me £32.42 instead of the £42.80 that they charged for these awful drinks, will have to email them or ring them and get this sorted out. That is to take account of some of the discount?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,152 ✭✭✭✭Berty

I got mine from Amazon and they were the "new" ones. I e-mailed them saying I didn't order the "new ones" rather a discounted price of the original ones and wanted to return them(free post after all).

She said that they cannot take returns of "Grocery" items so refunded me £57. With currency conversion I lose a bit on the refund but got to keep the Coffee.

Will probably open the first one by the end of the week so can't comment on the difference.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

I read somewhere that the new milk discs need to be shaken before use, might that have had an affect?
