reclaimation of battlefield sites

    hi all
    i am currently undertaking a masters in environmental resourse management. i am required to write an essay on the reclaimation of battle field sites focusing on site rehab and archaeological/ historical conservation.
    would anyone have any ideas for me or would you know where to get info on this topic as i'm finding it hard to locate material on this subject.

    any help at all would be much appreciated

    Try to get in touch with the Belgian Army, up untill today they are still dealing with the heritage of the WWI Western Front and the chemical ammunition used in that war. Flanders Fields museum in Ieper is probably a good port of call if you're looking at the archeological/conservation side of things.

    snowman -did you find any interesting stuff/links in your quest on battlesites investigated.

    Would that be historical battles like Waterloo confined to a small area or wide areas of destruction as seen in WW2 or even in the Gulf? Different topics.

    Cleaning up France and Germany after WW2 must have been quite a job. I remember reading an account from a WW2 participant that he found some WW1 battlefields more or less as they were left on November 11th 1918.

    I would have thought an excellent example of how battlefields are preserved comes from the USA where several historical civil war battlefield sites are preserved. http://www.nps.gov/history/hps/abpp// You might find some useful stuff there.

    Also have you ever heard of After The Battle magazine. They specialise in then and now shots of battlefields, mostly WW2. There is a huge back catalogue available going back to 1973.

    It's an interesting topic in fact.
