We have a quote from a builder that we are very happy about but before we tell him that we want to go with him, we are wondering is it normal practice to try get him to lower the price by a few thousand?
Quote is for 250000 for the house but i might ask him to drop it to 245000 or so, or will this cause unneccessary friction?

Try the oldest trick in the book by telling him that he is 10 grand or whatever dearer than the next best price. Behave like a politician by telling him all the things he wants to hear - the great builder he is, the fantastic recommendations he got from others, how reliable he is etc.

But then say to him that the other guy who is 10 grand cheaper also came with good recommendations but you would prefer to have him build your house but only if he can drop on the price a bit.

It wont cause any problems. Builders are well used to this.

    Good luck with it.
