Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello all,

    My first post.

Does anyone have experience of construction skills training centres in the
    UK ?

We're on a tight budget with a 175sq.m timberframe build that we're early stages planning.

I'll be wiring, and tending the blockie - and would like also to tackle the internal slabbing and skimming.

The plan is get in basic living quarters, and finish out the house asap.

So we're looking at a ten-day crash course in plastering. No illusions that it's easy, but with patience and practise hopefully get a result. At least if it screws up, It'll be obvious. Just wouldn't tackle plumbing/UFH.

The cost saving over enploying a plasterer are only valid if the training is any good !

Any thoughts or recommendations most welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

whatever you do, don't try to plaster yourself. It will probably take you 10 days to master the art of taking the plaster off the hawk. Better to try to find a plasterer that works on his own and is willing to let you labour to him. Remember that the plaster is the finish that everyone sees.

Use a dry system like fermacell and FST, that's what I did and it looks as good as any skimmed wall as an alternative use tapered boards and tape & skim.
