The January cure for your motorsport fix has arrived! The epic endurance challenge's first proper stage starts today. Second time running in the middle East in Saudi Arabia after moving from Africa and more recently South America

First stage is 277km long, first cars are starting to filter through now. More than 4700km will be completed by the time the event finishes 12 days from now...

Some of the higher profile drivers from the world of motorsport taking on the event:

Carlos Sainz Snr - John Cooper Works Buggy
    Sebastien Loeb - Prodrive Buggy
    Nasser Al-Attiyah - Toyota GR Hilux 4x4
Stephane Peterhansel - John Cooper Works Buggy
Romain Dumas - Rebellion Motors Buggy
Tim & Tom Coronel (sharing driving and navigating) "The Beast" Baja Buggy
Tomas Enge - Maverick X RS Turbo R SxS
    Matters Ekstrom - Yamaha SxS

Kris Meeke is also out competing in the lightweight SxS class in the new Ph Sport Side by Side, has to be a top contender in that category!

I'm not that up to speed with the bikes and trucks so forgive me for no info about them!

Unfortunately live timing, text updates and end of day highlights are the best coverage we have to follow the event.

    Meekes luck stricks again.

Spare tyre caught fire burning out some electrics and had to wait for a tow.

Gutted! The Prodrive lads aren't having much either, Loeb 36 minutes down after 2 stages...
