Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

About 4am quite low in the sky. East or maybe north east. I thought ' what the hell is that?' Looked like a satellite. Much much bigger than any star. Looked much nearer as well. Morning of Aug 2. Any ideas?
    Couldn't find any astronomy forum.

Yeah, Venus. It’s the third brightest object in the sky (after the Sun and the Moon).

Get yourself something like Sky Map, point your phone at said planet, and it'll tell you.

On an informative note, Saturn and or Jupiter were or are visible.
Spotted two bright stars either side of a pretty bright moon SE last week.

It was probably Venus. It is the first and last star to remain in the night/morning sky. The reason for this is it's proximity to earth. It does this in nine month recurrent cycles ( 225 days roughly ), hence the association with love, the goddess of love and pregnancy. It is generally easier to observe in Summer as it will be the first bright "star" you see in the sky, usually at dusk or just before it.

The reason why you do not see it for the other 3 months is because the sun is in the way, just in case you are trying to figure that one out.

You can usually see Venus low in the sky before dawn.
