Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

...these lakes have probably existed for much of Mars' history. For this reason, they could still retain traces of any life forms that could have evolved when Mars had a dense atmosphere, a milder climate and the presence of liquid water on the surface, similar to the early Earth

Some of the commentary I've read suggests it's premature to call the signals "lakes", suggesting it's more likely a sort of wet, salty sludge. It's also been suggested that for this to be liquid, it'd have to be so salty as to be basically sterile (by analogy with hyper-saline locations on Earth. There's a Chinese mission en route that may provide additional evidence one way or another.
