Wait, is that what people were taking about? I get to play the bonus content from season 1 as in Patient Zero? I was mad to play it but didn't want to pay 20 quid. So I get that and hitman 2 for 26 quid?

Yup, if you played season one you get that content in Season 2.

    Awesome!!!

Finally getting time to sit down and play this. I don't have patient zero, have to upgrade to the GOTY legacy pack for a tenner, nah. Now to get stuck into murdering people, pity I just missed Sean Bean.

Played through the opening beach house mission and found it tense enough. Made a complete balls of it though and had to leg it to the exit. Then, as I suspected, I just went straight onto the next mission instead of replaying to get a proper kill. Headed to Miami and killed one of the targets before calling it a night. Followed a 'story mission' which was way too easy. I must look at the settings to turn them down. I liked in the last game where an opportunity would pop of you overheard something and then have you a vague idea about what to do next. This put markers on the map and told me where to go and what to do.

I think I'll just get through each of the missions and see how I feel about replaying them. The timed episodes worked so much better imo.

Yes the story missions when enabled are too hand holdy. I suggest turning them off and seeing if you can discover them naturally by yourself during your first couple of runs through a mission.

I have gone through all 6 missions now, but I didn't move onto the next mission until I reached max mastery of each mission.
The episodic nature of the first mission forced you to replay the missions while in Hitman 2 you have to exercise self restraint.

I really get the game, like Hitman 2016 they really have nailed what Hitman is about, its essentially a puzzle game where you have multiple targets on a large map and your given free agency to take them out however you want. I like going back and finding new ways of completing the missions and exploring every nook and cranny as well as engaging in some of the more difficult challenges. Currently going do all the classic kill challenges on each map on Professional difficult and then going to repeat it on master difficulty. But I bet a lot of people won't be like that, they will just go through the missions once and be done with the game and probably feeling really short changed for what they got out of it.

From what I read so far online, the game isn't performing great commercially. But the design of the game means it will never have mass market appeal. I'm fine with people not getting the game and not buying it, just sad there probably won't be more games in the series like it and the developers may decide to take the game down a more mainstream avenue in the future like they did with say Absolution, that's to say if the developers survive in the long run.

I haven't got to Hitman 2 yet but I really came to love the episodic format in 1, shame they stopped it.

The episodic format suited Hitman 1 really well. But as usual it got heavily criticized by some gamer's just for the sake of being criticized because.... well you know gamer's on the internet must rage about everything.

You can still play Hitman 2 in the same way but you're relying on self restraint.

I have feck all self restraint :) I read that Hitman 2 wouldn't be episodic because of all the complaints the first got. Reading social media comments was so annoying, dopes saying they refused to buy the last one and won't buy 2 unless it was a full game at launch. Hitman said you got it out, but guess what, the majority of these absolute eejits didn't buy 2 and had no intention of it, just wanted to moan. I saw some people stand up for the episodic last game who had the same feeling as me, thought it was a **** move to pull, played it and realised how well it worked. They got destroyed in any comments I read.

People are just assholes I'm afraid.

Not to take the thread off topic but it is indeed annoying reading many game forums and comment sections. A large % of posters have this black and white view of everything with no in between. If you try to present an opposing side to the prevailing herd point of view you get screamed at or called a shill etc.
To be honest I don't think its just gamers who do this though.

Anyway back on to Hitman 2. Checking my Steam stats I got 167 hours out of Hitman 1 and reside on 47 for Hitman 2 so far and that will rise over the coming weeks and months. Its a game I'll spend a few hours every couple of days over the weeks and months and really get my money's worth out of for a single player game.

As I said already I really get what the developers are aiming for here and appreciate the games narrow focus. Its a game that's not targeting typical mass market appeal but appealing to a specific mindset. It makes the type of gamer who gets it very happy but on the other hand leaves the majority of players cold. I appreciate these types of game very much and am only too happy to play them now because I know they cannot be made indefinitely. At the end of the day game developers are businesses that need to make money and with publisher's to appease each game needs to make more money than the last. But the last two Hitman games really feel like the developers have really listened to what the more dedicated fans of the series wanted and developed a game with them in mind. A case of gameplay/artistic vision not being compromised to make the bottom line (although they of course they hoped that vision would make them tons of money).

Picked up the gold edition over xmas and was playing the first 2 episodes of Hitman 1 last night and after completing the Paris episode, I got an issue saying non of the legacy episodes had been available, anyone ever see similar?

    ...and it sorted itself out.

Tried it a few hours ago, all Hitman 1 legacy missions available as well as Ghost Mode and Sniper.

Back to killing people for fun while waiting for Resident evil 2. :o

Ya, I whacked it up to Master difficulty and even though its tougher, its a more enjoyable game to play through.

Hitman HD Collection is being released on the 11th Jan, includes both Blood Money and Absolution.
Today we’re happy and excited to announce Hitman HD Enhanced Collection, a compilation of two classic Hitman titles remastered in 4K resolution: Hitman: Blood Money and Hitman: Absolution. It will be available digitally January 11, 2019, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Both games can be played in 4K resolution and 60 fps, including many other improvements that bring these two classic titles into 2019 with the attention and love that they deserve.

“We’re very happy with this collection and how we were able to update and remaster two of our classic Hitman titles for modern consoles,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO, IO Interactive. “Hitman: Blood Money and Hitman: Absolution have helped us on our journey to where we are today, and we’re looking forward to players enjoying them in 4K and 60 fps.”

Hitman HD Enhanced Collection will feature:

4K visuals at 60 frames per second
    Increased texture resolution
    Upgraded texture formats
    Super-sampling
    Upscale support
Heightened shadow map and mirror resolutions
    Improved lighting
Updated controls for a more fluid experience

Kinda sad that they didn't just remix the levels in Hitman 2, to be honest.

Surprised that they went backward compatible not long ago with this coming out. I'd have paid a few bob to have the bloodmoney stuff in Hitman 2

The PC versions have been able to run that well for a while now with tweaks. Got 1-3 on gog then BM on steam. They run far into triple digit FPS.

Couldn't care less about Absolution but I'll definitely pick it up for Blood Money. Hitman 2 is half price as well at the moment on the PSN store.

What's the verdict on Hitman 2 compared to the last game? I loved Hitman 1 so if this is anywhere near as good I'd be very tempted to pick it up at half price.

I bought it yesterday, only played the first mission and about 5 minutes of the second. Haven't had the time to get stuck in. So far seems like more of the last game. Which is OK in my book.

Is it not basically the exact same game as Hitman 1, just a bunch of new episodes all released at once instead of dripfed?

Played it for a few hours yesterday and that really sums it up. You can be a bit overwhelmed, as the levels are just as big and intricate as the last one but they are all available at once. It would take a while to go back through them for all the unlocks and challenges etc.

It is pretty much a copy of the first game but with additional mechanics and touch ups that make it marginally better. Maps also seem a lot bigger.

It's a game that requires discipline though to master an area (to a decent degree) before moving on to the next level.

I've not played the first one but I've being playing the first 2 missions of Hitman 2 and the Training pretty much to death until I see and get to the highest rating I can.

You can definitely have fun with multiple play throughs and tactics in each mission, cant see it getting repetitive just yet.

Finished the "Game", so im now backtracking grabbing all the area specific achievements.

Its fun to see things happening from a different angle.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,090 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Got it cheap. It's pretty good. Frustrating at times when you can't figure out at all what to do.

The maps are big which is annoying sometimes because he runs really slow.

I'd probably pay 30 for Blood Money again. But 60 for both? no thanks

Finally got around to starting this last night. Decided to go through the legacy missions first before starting the new content. Disappointed to see some of the same bugs are still present in the game like in Paris with the camera and new reporter, she puts the camera down and walks away instead of waiting for Victor. Had to restart it 4 times to get it to work.

Some free content out for this today, Snow Festival. Think it might have been part of the first game too but allows you access to the Hokkaido Legacy pack aswell.

Have it downloading now so will get through it later.

Want to get the most of this before RE2 drops and takes over my life.

DLC Roadmap; a Bank sounds pretty intimate but I'm hoping the Resort is more like the Miami & Sapienza maps in terms of Size

That season pass is looking more and more over priced. The sniper maps are ok but from what was in the main game they are not substantial content by any stretch. Pass 39.99 btw.

The season pass is half price at the minute on Xbox. Might bite at that price, don't see it going for much less than that.

Things must be bleak. I completed the Mumbai mission and that counted as a rare achievement on Xbox.

Thats only the 4th mission. I am definitely not enjoying it as much as Hitman 1 and my hours played reflect that. I kind of had to motivate myself to play some more missions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Robert ninja

Achievements are a strange thing. Didn't a large % of players in one of the Fallout games not even get past the opening? Yet they launched the game. Quite a mystery.

I missed the last ET. When this happens it usually means my interest is as low as it can go before I uninstall it.

I'd say the first episode/prologue being free would skew the percentages in terms of achievement rarity.

FWIW I really enjoyed it, I'd agree it's not as good as the last one but has some really solid moments later on and I found the last mission a challenge and to be up there with some of the best Hitman moments.

Season pass was worth the 20 quid based on the content so far but no more, I caved and got it last time it was on sale. I wasn't too interested in the sniper assassin ones before they came out but ended up really enjoying completing the challenges in them. Like all headshots, bodies hidden, no alarms etc in one run, or electrocuting the 3 primaries.

For me I think the major factor is the game in a non episodic format (full game)

Hitman 1 for me was my most played game in the entire franchise. The game being divided up into multiple episodes allowed me time to invest myself in each location and max out all the challenges and play every angle of a mission. It was very digestible, each episode wouldn't dominate my gaming time. It was also great having something to look forward to when a new episode was about to drop.

The story seems a bit more weak compared to the story of Hitman 1 which seemed to be building up nicely as each episode progressed. Now I know Hitman is a sandbox game more than a story driven game but it felt like the story lost its momentum in Hitman 2.

With so many games out and an expanding backlog I just let Hitman 2 slide until taking it off the shelf the other night and resuming it.

To think originally I was against the episodic release of the game.

Episodic was much better for sure for exactly the reason Failsafe mentions. The crazy thing is you can see once you play season 2 that it was developed to be episodic but released as a full title. I have a feeling a few areas might have been better for having more time in development if released episodically as was clearly the original plan. Cutscenes between levels for the story could have done with a lot more work.

I played everything including the updated season 1 content start to finish doing everything before moving on and it took some will not to move on and see what was next in season 2 once I'd completed a mission. It was constantly nagging at me, taking away from the game.

As for being against it's episodic format originally I think we both ate our hats on that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I was the exact same, I'm sure i could dig up some posts in the hitman 1 thread about how episodes would be an epic fail but i loved that format when played it. I got to the 2nd mission in hitman 2 before trading it because of boredom.

When hitman 2 was building up to launch, the majority of social media comments on their posts were complaining about the episodes from hitman and how the boycotted it. Now with 2 releasing all together, they would be definitely buying it. It just stunk of people giving out about something they didn't play and the majority probably wouldn't be touching the new one anyway but that's who the bigwigs listen to for feedback.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Robert ninja

I preferred the release model of 2. I don't mind decent content updates but episodic is a wallet bleed and artificial 'engagement' bait. If one wants to stick to a single mission for a long time before moving on to the next then I can do just that. I don't need a corporation to literally delay it from me because I have no self control. For H2 I actually got all the unlocks for a mission before moving on to the next even with the legacy missions which I already 100% in H2016.

I'm glad they listened to the fans for this but it's not nearly enough because a lot of the game's core aspects are still linked strictly to remote servers and I think that is criticised harder that the release model.
