    Hi
The previous owner, for some reason, varnished over big paint marks on a few of the doorframes. To sort this out, do I need to just sand down these bits and revarnish?? And if this is the best option, would clear varnish work?
    Thanks

Wtaf?? The mind boggles as to the reasoning of some ppl!. You'll will have to sand that back to bare wood. There will be a difference between the areas you sand and the rest. Up to yourself if you can live with them. To give a perfect finish, you need to sand the entire frame.

Thanks, was thinking the same but was hoping there might've been some way around it! Having never painted with varnish before, is there a primer needed or anything??

Nope, just make sure the surface is clean and dust free

Cheers. Gave it a good sanding yesterday and did the first coat last night and it's not looking good bad!
