Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He has somewhat of a latter day regal look about him, tempered somewhat by that stubble :P. I guess he aint so vain that he goes to the bother of wasting his own time trying to straighten his hair (never knew he was naturally curly). Fair play to him - he's always never really given a hoot about his uncommon pastimes, and what people think of him..

I think that attempted safety shot from lu might well be the worst i've ever seen.

Hendry reckons he missed a pink on account of a pointless walk around the table... Pros and former pros notice that kind of thing more than me... I guess he's not relaxed yet, or overawed by Robbo... Anyway, the Aussie should be happy enough, and will be expecting his first win in a while...

He's not a bad player this lad, but man is he methodical. Just does everything at the same pace, every single shot the same. Bit unlucky with in off but no great conviction with the cannon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Actually lu has been shocking here, missing balls over pockets. Truly awful. For all he reached sf of the uk, i dont think he's actually beaten a top 16 player all season. Maybe puts it in perspective a bit.

    Nice 142 there from Robertson.

I mean yeah, thats a very good performance no question. Good scoring. But there wasnt any pressure put on him, his opponent was terrible so i wouldnt be joining phil in the effusive eulogies personally. Wilson will be a better test.

Thought Trump looked a bit weary last night. With so many tournaments back to back the top guys probably only get so much break away from the game. And nobody is getting away for a holiday. So it's bound to catch up on you after a while. Even Davis or Hendry would have had to drag themselves to a tournament from time to time. Thing with Judd is he's naturally diplomatic about it.

He spent Christmas in Dubai and had the Masters off due to a positive test, so he's only had one long week's work in 2 months with a holiday along the way!

In general I think Ken is a decent pundit, but he is some man for trotting out the most overused, worn out cliches in the history of the punditry.

Proper order restored - back to supporting Ronnie :). He surely has the Indian sign over Ding - that missed black was atrocious... Looking forward to Hendry's analysis mid-sesh, and 'Angles' said he was going to be watching Ding's cue action closely too; as he said it's looked a bit shaky/off this last yr and a half....

Dings made a fair few mistakes but is still 2-1 ahead. Should take heart from that. Didnt win frame but that red left handed to screw back for blue by ronnie was breathtaking. And right side of the blue naturally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

2-2 probably fair. Both made a few mistakes. Not sure why ding played that escape attempt the way he did, surely should have been trying to move red down table. Felt he rather gifted it to ronnie playing it like he did.

    Great escape there by Ron!

Poor Ding... That 'big pocket' red that he missed - hard to be too harsh on him leaving the red over the hole, as he was stretching, and maybe was erring on the side of avoiding the double kiss on the red closest to the pocket. Good signs from Ronnie that last frame - a bit lucky alright after missing that difficult yellow, but some good safety, and great pots on the red to yellow pocket, and the freeball brown to middle bag made him earn that frame coming from behind.

Yates doesn't know what he's on about - he mustn't have been watching much snooker recently.. Many's the time time the "fake audience clap" has been utilised as soon as frame ball has dropped; and sometimes when it's on its way in :pac: Nice to hear Fouldsy on about Knowledgeable crowds :D That one was well overused, and rarely have we heard a commentator use that phrase in recent years.

Ronnie wisely saving his energy there; with only one snooker needed he concedes, as the reds were situated very awkward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,291 ✭✭✭tanko

Ding plays some very careless shots when he's going well sometimes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,291 ✭✭✭tanko

How did he overscrew the yellow by two feet there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

    Ugh Ronnie. Shocker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,035 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

There's an example of frustration getting the better of someone. Even Ronnie. A couple of bad rubs and it got to him.

    I love a decider.

Dont expect that from him. Not killing off his opponent here, like last sunday. Very uncharacteristic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,291 ✭✭✭tanko

Another poor shot by Ding. Ronnie can't say he didn't get plenty of chances to win this.

    Gwan Ronnie - almost there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

    Great mental strength there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,291 ✭✭✭tanko

Class break from Ronnie to win it. Some shot on the brown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Characteristically rattles off a quick almost ton to finish it off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

As ding defeats to ronnie go, that wasnt among the worst of them anyway. Showed some fight and not much he could do about that bit of brilliance at the end.

He held it well alright in the end. 2 great brown pots in the match. That's the difference between him and 95+% of his fellow pros - he goes for, and gets most of those, and the rest would play safe or miss. An X factor player for sure. Different class..

True but the red he missed in the last frame wasn't the hardest shot in the world, he missed it by a long way.

Presume he gets a token fine for that rest throw? Barry Hearn up next.. Wonder if it's a live interview.

He had a chance, long potting was just off tonight, could have got a bit luckier with the way balls finished but so it goes. Will look forward to ronnie v lisowski anyway, good test for the younger guy. Only met twice previously so still a fairly novel pairing.

    Not live unfortunately :(

Looks like Higgins v Brown will be live tv match tomorrow. Fair play, thought they might have gone for selby v williams. Might be why they moved jordans match from today originally.

I wonder are broadcasters capable of keeping track of general viewing figures for each individual top 16 player. Might be a difficult thing to accurately monitor because there's different factors affecting why people watch a particular sporting event (time of day, stage of competition etc.). I'd be curious to know if Selby's reputation for being boring to watch (to put it crudely) is reflected in his viewing figures.

I'd say they probably have an idea alright. I wondered initially if they changed the match order to give jordan an extra day off, but now wondering if it wasnt so they could get him on the tv table. Not sure though, see a few comments on twitter who dont agree it should be tv match and doubt selby, as highest ranked, would be very happy about it. Interesting decision and a good one i think anyway. Also think jordan might struggle a bit as more exportation on him now but will be interesting to see.

Hendry vs his mate Matt Selt in his first pro match back.

Bit of a non event in terms of competitiveness but higgins is turning it on at least. Memories of his demolition of ronnie at the masters, in the zone again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,435 ✭✭✭weemcd

Higgins flawless first session, Brown hasn't scored at all. I don't see any way Higgins doesn't wrap this one up swiftly now.

jORDAN must WIN 5TH FRAME OR ITS CURTAINS FOR HIM . LETS SEE HIS FIGHTING SPIRIT

The Brown might save Brown from a whitewash.

    ^^

Well it, helped - Higgins wasn't easy on blue :p

    Misses the pink :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Always a risk that brown might under perform but that frame was a horror show. Just not with it at all, higgins could have saved this A+ performance for another day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭waynescales1

JB with the lilac waistcoat, he’s a superstar now, might aswell look the part.

    That miss on the pink.

That was some red from MJW.. Looking like 4-3 to the Welshman now.

Ha, selby pots red off williams break!

And wins frame off it. Maybe back to the drawing board MJ!?

He had a good run off it though... Must be the first frame in the several weeks he's been at it that an opponent potted a red from his new break off shot.. He'll still persevere.. I can see him doing it, with maybe even a smile on his face in #10 mins or so.

#Ya never know when Selby's playing... This frame could go another 40 minutes yet :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Ah yeah he'll keep it going for sure, just happy to see an opponent doing that because i really just dislike that shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Robbo be relieved to get that frame on the board. Kyren has missed a couple of big key shots but still leads 3-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Was hoping jack would stand up and give ronnie something to think about tonight. Feels a bit like man against boy so far.
