Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Excellent work Break 80! I might not be able to attend the first but the other ones should be fine. Looking forward to visiting some new courses.

Deffo in for kilkea castle Break80 and hopefully can make a lot of the outings this year.
Great work Captain and look forward to seeing you all throughout the year.

Teamer invites have been sent for Kilkea folks

We are resetting Handicaps to align with WHS folks. Rules have been (or will shortly be) updated. In short, we will use your Handicap Index to calculate a Course Handicap. We are not going to bother with the 95% playing handicap rule, but in an effort to be fair to all, we will still apply Playing Handicap adjustments as per previous.

Please send me a pm with your GUI number and Club so that I can prepare handicaps ahead of time

Best of luck to the society for the year. Been following the thread for a while now. I might try and join you all in Castlecomer when the time comes as its close to home and get involved for the 1st time

Best of luck this year, i hope to make Enniscrone but will have to play it by ear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭gypsy79

Inter club commitments and distance to Munster make it unlikely I will make many this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭Ivefoundgod

Am I too late to sign up for this? Think I'd be able to make 3 events as Kilkea is practically on my doorstep and Castlecomer and West Waterford wouldn't be too far away. I've only just joined a club this year and haven't got my handicap yet though would probably have it by the 19th of June all going well.

Might have been a slight exaggeration :o I'm living in Carlow town so only a 15ish minute drive out the road from me, Carlow is my home course.

Unfortunately I have taken out my name for KC as it is clashing with a team competition I am playing. In case I am not selected I will see if there are still available places for this and still possible to join.

Enjoy, looking forward to attending one outing at least this year...

ooh Its tight at the Top :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,068 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

sorry, there were actually a couple of errors in the previous table, I just realised as I updated this week. Some of the newer members were not previously included

Here is the state of play now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,068 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

    After Castlecomer

A little reshuffle at the top , its tight up there now

    😉

  • Registered Users Posts: 849 ✭✭✭ballyk

Congrats Seve on taking the lead and well done for getting the table updated so quickly. Society is indebted to you for your continuing hard work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

things very interesting around the top 10 too. Everyone as far as Pakman has 5 events minimum played, so need an improved score to increase. Next 2, Doublecross & Roadrunner with 4 played so could be a good jump with a decent fifth score. Few more with potential for jumps with one big win

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,213 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Is that tiny for anyone else? Even when it opens, it seems to be strangely small.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Its an unfortunate byproduct of trying to create an image from a large spreadsheet and trying to fit all users names and results.

Might be worth considering posting a section, maybe just the top 20 and just the total scores alongside the overall table?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,068 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Yes I only noticed that after. I’ll do a better version tomorrow on my pc in work

    PDF attachment might be better

    Oh wow,

It is going helter - skelter in the top 10. I haven't seen this much juggling and vying for a top 10 spot since the late nineties when the Kelly family were claiming they had a better single than the Corrs only to be scuppered by Christy Moore and the there were the mighty juggernauts at the top of the table Hanson vs Nickleback.

That trudge and challenge at Castlecomer has me falling out of the top 10 and I'm gutted now that I am missing West Waterford as I am on holidays up the west and then Donegal from next Wednesday.

West Waterford is a lovely course, I think the first par 3 is one where it slopes slightly downhill, there is a hedge across the fairway that guards the green along with a lake to the left.

    I remember this well :D

For those of you that will get to play this gem, enjoy and I hope to see you for Captains in September.

    Snackbox

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,068 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

I’m only at the top for a quick look

my money on Slave1 to be taking golfer of the year. I’ll be missing Waterford so expect to see him take an unassailable lead into the final round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Numbers are very low for Waterford, so he could have it in the bag with a good performance. 2 wins in one GOTY season would usually put anyone close to uncatchable.

Pretty much everyone who turns up, even coming last will likely show them increase their best 5 total

  • Registered Users Posts: 273 ✭✭Snackbox20

Playing Enniscrone this morning in their open singles. See what lies ahead of captain's.

There's a fair few par 5s. So I best leave early now, get to the range and buy more balls 😁😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,068 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Low turnout in Waterford has really shaken things up in the Golfer of the year.

By my reckoning anyone of the top 6 can claim the top spot depending on how the results fall in the final event.

sorry, the new boards is messing with the resolution of image making it hard to read, pdf attached now

I will try and take a look tomorrow if I have time.

It is unfortunate that this year's fixtures didn't suit me but hopefully I will be back next year. I was in Enniscrone on Saturday while you were playing West Waterford. I seem to be playing a lot of the same courses as the society, just on the wrong day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭paulos53

For charlieIRL the task is simple: A top 2 finish will guarantee him Golfer of the Year

    • Failing that a 3rd place finish means that only slave1 can catch him by winning in Enniscrone.
    • A 4th place finish gives spacecoyote & Seve OB a chance but again they will need a win on the Captain’s Day.
    • A 5th place for charlieIRL opens it up a bit more. A 2nd place for slave1 would earn him the title. If slave1 is outside the top 2 then OffalyMedic and Break80 could both top the table with a win. For Break80 this would only be good enough for a tie and have the committee scrambling to find a tie-break procedure.

Should charlieIRL fail to improve on his points total then

    • slave1 needs a minimum of a top 4 finish
    • Seve OB, spacecoyote and OffalyMedic would need at least a top 3
    • Break80 would need be in the top 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭paulos53

Ryder Jug qualification is trickier as it is hard to predict what the 10th place points total will be. Here is my best guess

The 6 GOTY contenders all look to be safe for a top 10 spot to qualify for the Ryder Jug team.

benny79 is not mathematically guaranteed a spot on 550 points but it would take a freak set of results to knock him out so I think he can relax going into Enniscrone.

Next on the list is ballyk on 508 points so if I set a nominal target of 509 points to make the top 10 then here are some targets in Enniscrone for the chasing pack.

    Top 17 - ballyk

    Top 11 - a post punk & Concerned2

    Top 6 - Kiith

    Top 5 - GolfNut203

    Top 4 - doublecross, Alanm & RoadRunner

    Top 3 - jarrieta, pakman & Snackbox20

    Top 2 - WoodyG

    A win - Brian Rossiter & FixdePitchmark

Excellent, cheers @paulos53 , nice work.

Looking at a lot of the names on the list that are right on the bubble for the top 10, its going to be a very tricky decision to come up with the 2 wildcards.

At least with the captain safely in there it means we'll have 2 open choices

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,068 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Fair play Paulos53, must have been a slow morning in work 😂

I’m just thinking I’ve got to win and maybe stand on charlieIRLs ball when he is not looking 🥺

@Seve OB has sent out the Teamer invites for Captains this morning (thanks). Would really appreciate if people can update their status as soon as possible on this one, as we need to confirm the numbers with Enniscrone and get organised for the event. Its the Captain's big day, so want things to run as smoothly as possible so we can get the prize announcements and the Top 10 for GOTY countdown completed on the day. Captain will be posting a specific thread for the event shortly.

As an FYI to all interested, I have 2 tee slots booked in Rosses' Point on the day before, 17th September, at 11.20 & 11.30. Its 2 4-balls. I have 5 of the slots taken at the moment so far. But for anyone interested, they're more than welcome to join us.

Further to that, I've booked a couple of rooms in the Sligo Southern Hotel so far. The rooms I've booked so far are filled for the Friday night. There is room for 1 person on the Saturday night currently in the rooms I have. Again, first come first served on that one.

Folks, baby girl was born 4 weeks early on Monday evening. Mom and baby doing really well, and things are going great so far. Happy days 😁

I'll obviously be missing the Enniscrone trip for sure now. Also missing the 3 day trip that was supposed to start today, but i really couldn't care less to be honest. Much rather just sit home and look at the little one. I may reconsider that when i see the photos of the beautiful weather up there today, but i doubt it.

Had a blast this year, and look forward to getting stuck in again next year. Might be around for the Ryder Jug if everyone above me plays **** next round out, but sure we'll see how things go.
