Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not sure whether she is a joint card holder but thread title updated, c'mon our Leona

Looks like Lisa Maguire, Leona's twin sister has stepped away from the pro game, according to this Irish Golfer Magazine report (see below). As the old saying goes, "while one chapter of your career ends, another one opens".

Lisa will now be part of the Niall Horan's Modest Golf Management company, in what appears to be in a non-playing capacity. In other words she will become a big part in finding young and aspiring female golfers to join with Modest Golf, that has the likes of Guido Migliozzi, Christian Bezuidenhout, Tyrell Hatton and of course Leona Maguire in their roster.

Best of luck on your new role Lisa!

Strong opening rounds from Leona and Stephanie Meadow in this weeks LPGA event in Australia

Stephanie is -5 and T15. Leona is -3 and T28
However there are 2 courses in use and they both played the tougher course in Round 1. Stephanie had the 2nd best score and Leona the 5th on their course.

Stephanie finished T20 and Leona a fantastic T4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,507 ✭✭✭tinpib

Brilliant stuff, $12.5k for Stephanie, and a not too shabby near $53k for Leona.

Great stuff, should be a nice jump up the world rankings

No LPGA events for the next 2 weeks due to their Asian events being impacted by the coronavirus. So it is another week in Australia for Leona, this time on the European Tour

-4 after the first round and just 2 shots off the lead

Top 20 finish for her this week at the Ana inspiration. Her second major since the return I think.

+2 for the day after 4 holes, that's a shame.

T5 at -3 today finished her 1st round. Actually mentioned on Sky Sports.

Fantastic birdie-birdie finish just there for 7th place currently. Hopefully should stay in a Top 10 position - great signs for the season ahead.

A very good week for her ðŸ‘

Great to see. Way she's built herself up since her college days has been impressive, never rushing herself, just taking one small step at a time. Mature head on very young shoulders i think. Gary Murphy was very interesting about her on radio today. Hopefully a good season ahead.

Tied 6th finally - brilliant! Over $47k prizemoney it looks like.

"Is it your goal to be No.1 female golfer in the world?" "Yeah...if that wasn't your goal, i dont know why you'd be in the sport."

Good interview with Leona on radio 1 today. Comes across very confident and mature. Like how she said she wasnt obsessed with chasing length or power and wasn't aware she was No.1 on the lpga putting stats last year. Augurs very well.

Up to jt 4th after 12 at-3. Going along nicely. It’d be great to see her contend for a major.

Two off the lead playing the 18th, they've finally started covering her shots on the coverage too. Be great to see her contend at the weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,825 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Birdied the last for a 67. Just one shot off the lead. Great stuff.

    Great opening round

Decent length interview after 1st round of ANA. She's been hitting the gym clearly!

-12 for her last 3 rounds at Rancho Mirage. Seems to enjoy this course anyway. Due on tee at just before 4.30 irish time, hopefully get a decent bit of screen time today.

-12 for the next 3 rounds would be great! Different ball game in contention for a major of course.

Yeah, it's asking a lot for someone who hasn't any experience of contending for majors, but be great to see her in that position and looking comfortable.

Looking at her season stats, i see she's a very decent 28th for GIR but only 59th for putting. Which is very encouraging i think as shows her game tee to green is solid while we know she can improve her putting as she was No.1 on the lpga last year.

Has started well today. Will get the best of the weather too.

As author of his thread almost 6 years ago I can officially say that Leona is TIED FOR THE LEAD through 21 holes !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Great par save on 5. Would have been a downer to give lead up so quickly.

Edit: was her 4th, followed by another solid par on 5th, playing back 9.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,825 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Great par save on 17, her 8th hole. Par 5 up next so perhaps a chance for the solo lead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Some great scrambling on her front 9. Only 4/8 for GIR but putter really saving her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,942 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

It'd be nice if she could birdie the 18th, -2 on that back nine is a very good score.
It's gonna be a nail biting weekend if she can stay in contention.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Shame about the birdie putt but very acceptable outward 9 for her. Keeping it together very nicely.

  • Registered Users Posts: 403 ✭✭Beaulieu

Working at present so no access to TV. Keep those updates coming! Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Dropped shot on her 10th. Missed fairway badly left and just missed par putt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Birdies relatively easy par 5 to get share of lead back. Beast of 3rd hole to negotiate now, hardest hole on the course today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Another dropped shot. Didn't show her first putt but obviously got pace wrong or misread, left herself 8 foot for par and missed.

Good approach on 13th, maybe 12 foot for birdie. Moriya Jungutarn leading on -7.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Didn't get birdie putt anyway. Flirting very dangerously with water on par 3 5th so very tricky up and down again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,304 ✭✭✭munster87

She did well with her second shot on the par 3 there, looked up against the collar of the rough, chipped it to a few feet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Yeah, thought that was going to be very awkward but seemed she was able to get the club well under it. Another quality save. Jutanugarn now -8, bit of daylight to the chasing bunch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,304 ✭✭✭munster87

    Water

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Ah damn it. Was well short off the tee it looked like. Was developing into a bit of a struggle, hopefully can limit the damage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭ankles

Swinng has definitely got out of timing the last few shots

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,304 ✭✭✭munster87

Next shot left her off the green, 20 yards from pin or so and she chipped in for bogey!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,631 ✭✭✭willabur

    What an escape there

But she has almost hoselled her last two approaches. Timing badly off. Saved big time with wedge play

Looks completely like a symptom of tiredness
