Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Definitely starting to calm down in Galway now. The odd gusts. Rain has stopped for the most part too.

    What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    Had quietened down for a spell there, but a few significant, sustained gusts there now in Dublin. Very noisy. Window panes rattling (they are in bits though in fairness).

    10pm
    Mace head gusting 66 knots (122 km/h). strong enough.

    122 km/h recorded at Mace head. My guess is that was around 9:20pm. I was outside around that time and got a very gusty few minutes and then it seemed to die off.

    What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    Very strong in west Kerry at present with the occasional violent gust. Rain seems to have eased though.

    Recent lightning strike between the Aran Islands and the south Connemara coast into the bargain. Any Galweigans spot that?

    Unusual not to see a defined squall line on the rainfall radar returns which would tie in with the recent but brief surge in wind speeds here in south Laois along with a sudden temperature drop - down over 1c in just ten or so minutes.

    Very bad day in meath, very windy but nothing iv'e not seen before, rain was the worst, 13.7mm since around 4 o'clock

    So far would think that the ECM and ICON have best predicted the highest winds today, ARPEGE and AROME have slightly under performed as did the GFS.

    EURO 4 was quite good as was FMI HIRLAM. WRF never picked up the highest gusts .

    Thankfully we escaped the worst of it here in North County Dublin. A bit windy but nothing out of the ordinary.

    The rain was actually the worst part relentless from about 5pm just never stopped think we reached about 15mm by time I was going to bed.

    Here's the storm comparison table for max wind gusts updated to include Storm Bella. It is now all a different format with stations on the top and storm names on the side. This was done via suggestions because the old format was getting messy with the many storms that were being included.

    Since the last post from Storm Aiden, I have also added "Anne" (name from Wiki page) from 2/3 January 2014. Otherwise, everything else remains the same.

    As always, for those that are new, each cell is colour coded based on the necessary warning level using the official system by Met Eireann.

    Yellow = 90-110 kph
    Orange = 111-130 kph
    Red = 131+ kph

    cUhjZWc.jpg

    A mean speeds version of this table is and has been in the works too but is not close to finished. It will probably be completed the next storm at earliest depending on how soon that is. This will give us an extra good look into seeing how impactful a storm really was, in terms of numbers, as gusts don't tell the full story.

    Hopefully you like the new format.
