Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Welcome one and all to the culmination of the last few months of tournaments.

We have decided the best songs from each decade - the 60s right up to the Noughties...

And now it's time to take the best of them all and jumble them together (along with some of your own personal choices) - to let them fight it out for the right to become....

    The. Best. Song. EVER!!!
    (as decided by Boardsies)

Errrrr.. it's most likely not going to be that one despite what One Direction tell us

Tournament will start with the qualifiers round at about 11am....

    See you then!

AHHHH FFS (you try finding a Best Song Ever gif on Google, I dare you!)

Damn, I didn't even think about nominating Tenacious D. Hope someone else did so that I can vote it to the victory it deserves.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,134 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Actually Tenacious D wasn't nominated, but I can include it in a super special extra qualifier match if you want?

Not long to go till tournament start now.

Quarter finalists from the competitions already ran will not appear in the qualifiers, they'll be introduced from round 1.

Votes in qualifiers will be first to 5.

Now these I can get involved in :)

    REM - Leave
My nom, it's just an incredible audio assault with so much depth and subtlety below the surface

    Radiohead - Reckoner
    Obviously :p

Talk Talk - Life’s What You Make It
    Close one though!

    Radiohead - True Love Waits
My nom again. Playing to the crowd a little, I think this is one of the most universally loved non-single Radiohead songs

I'm trying go listen to every song I vote on, it may have been different though if it was the Hawaiian lad on the ukelle that's a great version

Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah VS Kate McCannon - Colter Wall
Well that was unexpected, I read the artists as Lorde and Kate McCannon. Both very good, but that Lordi song is classic

Quentin Dupieux with Flat Eric - Mr Oizo 'Flat Beat' VS Billy Joel - She's Always A Woman
Flat Beat should be left in the... whatever decade it came out in

Hans Zimmer - Mombasa (Inception Soundtrack) VS Audioslave - Like A Stone
Mombasa isn't the best song in that soundtrack, never mind the world

Johnny Cash - Hurt VS The Dubliners - The Auld Triangle
    Never got the Dubliners... Shhhh....

The thing I don't get is why if you're gonna nominate Hurt, why you'd go for the inferior Johnny Cash version

And I'm not saying voting against the Dubliners makes you a west Brit globalist agitator

But if someone did say it

    They wouldn't be wrong

Fair play to whoever nominated Bloc Party, they're massively underrated. Unlucky being drawn against the actual best song in the world!

    Colter Wall
    Billy Joel
    Audioslave
    Johnny Cash
    Johann Pachelbel
    Judy Garland
    Spencer Davis Group
    Kenny Rogers
Audioslave - don't want to give the impression I'm a fan - they just had poor opposition.
    The High Kings
    Bocelli & Dion
    Hozier
    Clannad
    Aerosmith
Ah, what the f*ck? Hendrix vs Clapton already? Jesus. And so many other pairings
with both entries complete crap. Sigh. Gahhhhh... Hendrix.
    Bon Jovi
