Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Move from public system braces to private?

Is it possible to move a child from the public dental and ortho system to a private one?

My son was put on the public waiting list for braces when he left national school. He got braces on in the latter part of 2019. Since then one of brackets has come off twice and wire loose - we had to bring him back the first time and they were closed the second time so had to get a private ortho to do something to tide him over. He knows what he can’t eat and has not had a fizzy drink since getting his braces.

Another issue is that my son just doesn’t like the ortho. He dreads appointments, says the ortho is always giving out and the child is like a briar after. I’ve sat in on appointments and the ortho doesn’t have a friendly manner. My son has had no problems with anyone else in dental. After the emergency visit to the private ortho my son said it made a change to not come out of the appointment in a bad mood!

My question is: is it possible to move from public ortho to private ortho when you have already started treatment? He is over a year in but had over 7 months between an appointment due to the pandemic.

There's no problem changing from HSE to private treatment.
Explain to them why you are moving as you have in your OP above, & it's all quite logical.
The main thing to consider is there is unlikely to be any reduction in fees even though technically you have commenced treatment. It's very challenging to take over someone else's work& not every practitioner would have the same treatment plan/sequence, even though they might be aiming towards the same result. They may even dismantle the current braces& start from scratch. So just to be prepared for those possibilities.
