Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm not sure how many people read the emale newsletter that kangaroo posts but just in case not many do, I would like to draw your attention to a survey that is linked to in the latest one. Here is the blurb on it:Knowledge of Cancer Risk Factors in Irish Males
The number of cancers occurring worldwide is increasing. This is partly because populations
are living longer, but also because of an increase in cancer causing behaviours. It is estimated
that at least one third of all cancers could be prevented through adopting a healthy diet, staying
active, and maintaining a healthy body weight. Researchers at University College Cork have
compiled a set of questions relating to cancer risk factors. They are asking men in Ireland to
complete this survey in order to better understand how much local males understand about
cancer risk factors. This is important, as it will help health professionals and policy makers to
develop better cancer awareness programmes in the future. To access / complete the survey,
visit: www.surveymonkey.com/r/C6MZJWQ
Note: I have no affiliation to the survey other than a general interest.0 -

We’re now only days away from International Men's Health Week (MHW), which begins on Monday 10th June and runs until Sunday 16th June 2019 (Father’s Day). Each year, there is a specific theme. During 2019, the theme for the island of Ireland is 'Men’s Health Matters' and everyone is being asked to make the time and take the time to do something realistic and practical to improve both their own health and the health of the men and boys that they have contact with.
This edition holds a lot of information about the forthcoming MHW celebrations on the island of Ireland. It gives details of the resources available, how to access them, how to get involved in the week, and how to let others know about what you have planned. Find out more at: www.mhfi.org/mhw/mhw-2019.html
Best wishes,

This edition holds a lot of information about what is happening in the field of men’s health / men’s work in Ireland and beyond. However, can I especially draw your attention to the article about the ‘Men in the Middle’ - Training for Trainers programme? …
In March 2018, a landmark report titled ‘Middle-Aged Men and Suicide in Ireland’ (www.mhfi.org/MAMRMreport.pdf) was launched. The aim of this study was to explore the factors underpinning the high suicide rate among middle-aged men (40-59 years old) in the Republic of Ireland, with a view to providing more effective and gender specific programmes, services, and resources that can support their mental health and wellbeing. The report highlighted that:
over the past ten years, the suicide rate among middle-aged men in the Republic of Ireland has been the highest of all age cohorts;
suicide and suicidal behaviour is more prevalent among certain ‘at risk’ groups’;
a range of mid-life transitions are associated with challenges for these men;
reaching a crisis point is the most common trigger to seeking help for many men;
there is a diverse range of barriers and enablers which influence the dynamics of engaging with middle-aged men in relation to their mental health.
To meet the need from practitioners to develop meaningful relationships with this target group, the Engage National Men’s Health Training Programme developed a new workshop called ‘Men in the Middle’. Applications are now being sought from experienced facilitators to participate in a Training for Trainers programme to upskill them to deliver this workshop across the Republic of Ireland. More details can be found at: www.mhfi.org/Engage7Overview.pdf
Best wishes,
Colin

Free 'Men in the Middle' WorkshopsDear Colleague,
‘Are middle-aged men not interested in looking after their own mental health, or are we simply not offering them the right things in the right way?’ …
If you work in the Republic of Ireland, are curious about the answer to this question, and would like to explore practical strategies to help your organisation to engage more effectively with middle-aged men, then you might be interested in a free one day workshop titled ‘Men in the Middle’ - engaging middle-aged men in mental health and wellbeing.
This workshop has been developed by the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI), was funded by the HSE’s National Office for Suicide Prevention, and is a new Unit within the highly successful and long-running ‘Engage’ National Men’s Health Training Programme.
MHFI is currently looking for groups in the Republic of Ireland who would like to host this free workshop for their staff / volunteers / activists. To find out more, see the attached flyer or visit: www.mhfi.org/EngageUnit7Workshop.pdf
Happy New Year!

Subject: INVITATION: Webinar to Launch 'Men's Health in Numbers'Dear Colleague,
The Men's Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) would like to invite you to an online birthday party with a difference
… YOU get a very valuable present to take home afterwards!
MHFI is celebrating its 21st birthday this year. To mark this achievement, we have undertaken a project called ‘Men’s Health in Numbers’. We are now ready to launch the findings, and would like to invite you to a short webinar to hear the outcomes and get a free copy of the reports produced.
The Men’s Health Forum in Ireland was established in response to the growing recognition of the need to address the poor health status of males in Ireland. However, one of the first challenges facing us was to gain access to reliable data upon which to plan future interventions. This remains an ongoing concern for MHFI and, indeed, everyone who wishes to work in an evidence informed way. ‘Men’s Health in Numbers’ sought to meet this need by producing:
1. A substantive ‘Trends Report’, which gives a comprehensive overview of key health and wellbeing statistics on men and boys on the island of Ireland, and looks at how these have changed over time.
2. A short, infographically-driven, lay-friendly ‘Report Card’, which highlights a number of contemporary headline statistics on men and boys in the Republic of Ireland.
You are invited to a webinar to launch both of these resources. This free event will …
take place on Thursday 10th December 2020;
begin at 11.00am;
be held using ‘Zoom’;
include a presentation from the authors, international perspectives on men’s health from special guests, and a panel discussion on men’s health on the island of Ireland.
We would be delighted if you could join us!
If you would like to participate, you can register at: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_81vpnAnkTKKCKzM7NRFdDA Please note that places are limited and will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
All the best,
Coli

Can I please draw your attention to one of the articles in the News section? … To mark its twenty-first birthday in 2020, MHFI undertook an initiative titled ‘Men’s Health in Numbers’. This sought to produce:
1. A comprehensive Trends Report that describes, in detail, changes in significant markers of men’s health on the island of Ireland in the last twenty years.
2. An infographically-driven Men’s Health Report Card that provides a lay person’s synopsis of contemporary key men’s health statistics in the Republic of Ireland.
These publications were officially launched at a webinar held on Thursday 10th December 2020, and you are invited to download a free copy of each at:
