    With the exception of Sinn Fein, why are todays republican groups lacking in intellectual leadership? Traditionally, nationalist organisations attracted very dynamic individuals such as Michael Collins, Charles Stewart Parnell and Padraig Pearse. Why is it nowadays that organisations outside the sphere of Sinn Fein lack intellectual leadership?

    Would the likes of Michael Collins or even Padraig Pearse have ended up in armed organisations had it not been for the political climate?

    Politics thread- This is history forum. This reads as trying to push a political idea/ opinion whilst throwing in a few names from the past and if I can be forgiven for taking the bait it is not credible to identify the current Sinn Fein leadership as 'intellectual'. If you wish to discuss history you need to keep current politics out of it. If you wish to discuss current leaders of political parties you can do so on the politics board.
