Phil Cawley and Ian Dempsey have another thing in common (apart from being long term with Today FM).......they both joined Radio 2 at just 19 years of age!

My first recollection of hearing Ian Dempsey on RTÉ Radio 2 was probably when he co-presented with Ruth Buchanan on "Poparama" a show aimed at children on Sat+Sun mornings I think.

I think Barry Lang had also co-presented with Ruth on the same show at another point.

Poparama Pop Pop, Pop Pop-arama, Poparama Pop Pop, Pop Pop-arama...

When did Poparama change over to Peter Collins and Teresa Lowe?

    1989 - "The Breakfast Club"

Jimmy Greely also had a stint on Poparama in around 1980

Funnily enough, I never remember "Geoff Harris" - Did he migrate to any other presenting roles on Radio 2 or go elsewhere?

Simon Young had ended up on "Ireland's Biggest Jukebox" on Sundays when that show originally started on 2FM and John Clarke took over following Simon's exit. "Simon's Saturday Choice" on 2FM also ran on Saturday mornings in late '80's and he did the "2FM Weekend Breakfast Show" on Sat/Sun for a period too while Ian Dempsey's Breakfast Show was broadcasting on 2FM from Mon-Fri back in the days before he jumped ship to Today fm. Simon also did "The Beat Box" on Sunday mornings on Network 2 television for a period not to mention his stints on Dempsey's Den/The Den with Dustin and Zig+Zag+Zuppy!

I read this somewhere before which is quite interesting.
Jimmy Greeley such a distinctive clear voice who had a daily morning show on Radio 2 (Mon-Fri) 09:00-11:30am and who also did a lot of work in RTÉ Continuity as an announcer, voice-over artist, RTÉ tv newscaster. I believe he was one of the original presenters of RTÉ Radio 2 in 1979 and when radio station 4FM first launched around 2009 he was in their original line-up.

Jimmy doing Network News (RTÉ Network 2) from 02:54 on below clip

I still remember Aunty Poppy's Storytime which I think was a feature of Poparama.

A clip from the same Aunty Poppy - a promotion for her new book on sale for IR£3.99!
