5 Card Draw - 4 of a Kind Rule Qs

Hi,
We have a weekly 5 card draw game between 6 friends, cash game, time limit. I understand the rules can vary from house to house but something came up last week that none of us are sure on.
One player was dealt his 5 cards and he got 4 of a kind, lucky him. Another player before him on the deal opened and so the game progressed. We allow players to draw 1-3 cards, the guy with the 4 of a kind drew 1 card, even though he was not going to be able to improve his hand, he did this to avoid "smoking" and showing how strong he was. He obviously won the pot at the end but it was questioned that he drew a card and that the common approach when you have 4 of a kind dealt is to not take a card in the draw round.
I haven't found any rule on this, is it an unwritten rule? or should we say well done

Every time I've ever played draw (home games, casinos, tournaments, online) you can draw one card to 4-of-a-kind.

The biggest online site in the world allows you to draw; http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/games/draw/

So unless your weekly game has a secret house rule, then ....

It might be an old archaic rule from old home games. And I mean really old. Totally not applicable now, draw or don't draw, up to the player. Either way that rule went out before the no check raise rule.
