It would appear that certain branches of government in one or more countries are using malware to ‘stich-up’ a victim to make it look as if s/he was looking at paedophilia material on the internet. The Electronic Freedom Foundation, American Civil Liberties Union and National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers have published the following guidance document for lawyers who are defending people in these circumstances.

Apparently the malware among other things can fake time stamps which record when a site was alegedly ‘accessed’. It can also steal real IP numbers and NAT addresses of PCs using Tor or VPNs. One wouldn’t be surprised if it can’t make the Pope look like a paedophile by creating fictitious traffic to certain websites from chosen PCs. It seems that they are using this technology to prevent people from disclosing evidence of criminality on Wikileaks and similar. Blackmail etc. The story is evolving.
