The Stranger is up there with the dumbest TV series I've ever seen. The acting was almost as bad as the writing.

Just plain awful and a reminder of why I prefer films.

Really compelling viewing. 5 episodes but only about 40 mins each so you fly through it.

    Ridiculously good.

    Thanks for the recommendation.

Agreed, if it was RTE/ITV there wouldn't even be a review for it, really disappointing to hear the buzz out there on recommendation lists for it.

I could take a little bit of plot stretching or some minor stuff, but in combination with the acting....nope!

Cheers, cleared cache and restarted app and it's showing episode one now but still says that episode called magic Mike out on Tuesday even though that's the name of episode one. Either way I'm happy out now can watch episode one. Thanks everyone :-)

This passed me by actually, with that large list a few pages back; I'd actually given up checking if B99 Season 6 might turn up on Netflix.

    NOICE.

Doesn't it air on Channel 4 here before arriving on Netflix, hence the delay.

I thought the stranger started very well and had a lot of promise. But quickly went downhill and then the finish was ridiculous.

They tried to tell far too big story too small a tine frame.

Half way through the stranger so I suppose I'll finish it now but it is crap and reminds me why I don't really watch many series. Back to the wire or the deuce for me next I'd say.

This is the thing with TV. Getting off to a good start seems to be the easiest thing in the world. Coming to a satisfying conclusion seems impossible.

Shows like Lost, Flash Forward, Heroes, The Stranger, The recent BBC Dracula, Walking Dead, Peaky Blinders etc.. all started off great and fell off a cliff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭brick tamland

I didn't mind The Stranger. Wasn't great or anything but having watched safe and read one of Harlan Corbins books before I knew what I was getting into. His stories follow his style. I imagine we'll get more of his stuff to with the popularity of it (amount of people watching rather than good reviews).

Great stuff with S6 of Nine9. A great show

Yeah- puzzlebox approach, rather than 'know your ending approach'. I really hope Westworld is the latter.

Hi, is there somewhere I can find out what titles just left / is leaving Netflix? Cos I for sure saw Arrival and Blue Is The Warmest Colour a few weeks ago but now it's gone! Can anyone confirm?

    Can't recommend Fauda highly enough.

Set in the West Bank and illustrates the struggle between the Israeli Defence forces and Hamas (PLO).

Two seasons which link well together. A third one is due at the end of March or April I think.

Shocking, the author of the book is recommending the show.

If its anything like The Stranger, this will be mostly trash.

The only way I can describe Stranger is that if all of the UKs top gossip magazines pooled their resources together and made a TV show, this would be it. Think footballers Wives, but worse

I Am Not Okay With This season 1
Angsty Syd navigates high school awkwardness, family drama and an unrequited crush on her best friend while trying to rein in her budding superpowers

    The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez
A boy's brutal murder and the public trials of his guardians and social workers prompt questions about the system's protection of vulnerable children.

Same director and source author as End of the F***ing World, and that was brilliant. I've got high hopes for this

    I’ve watched every season.
There are moments where you think this sh1t is just way too stupid and corny, but then there is moments of such brilliant violence and brutality, and the stories around it play out so well.
You have to watch it from season 1 and not skip through any. The ending of the 2nd last season was so violent and tragic it left me in shock, in a good way. But you got an awful lot of minutes to get through to get to that stage.
The 2nd season is probably best of all seasons.

    this.

have lost count at this stage the amount of people who've watched Top Boy on Netflix only to later find out/not find out at all about Summerhouse. I'm glad it did happen to me, pain in the arse I'd imagine.

Netflix should probably merge them, if they're allowed of course.

one of my work colleagues watched it all the way to the very last episode & pulled the plug there & then.

I couldn't figure out for the life of me how he'd committed so far only not even to be tempted to see out the last episode.

My experience, I should have stopped watching it after the 2nd season.

I got as far as half way through the 7th season but it was painful & a lot of them latter episodes/seasons would have been when I couldn't decide on what else to watch.

started off great tbh but imo it just died an absolute death & ended up being total sh1te in the end.

I still can't understand how he didn't just finish off the last episode mind but I can relate & reason a little more to & with his decision after watching it myself.

It has some really good stuff, and some properly poor stuff. The good stuff is basically "Hamlet with bikers" and done well, but the bad stuff involves an entire season (season 3) set in Northern Ireland where the casting seems to have been "anyone who has, or can imitate, what they think is a Northern Irish accent". And the ending is dragged out (like so many shows are) in the final 2 seasons, though there are still some great individual episodes along the way.

I don't know if I'd be arsed watching it all again, tbh, though there are a few episodes I'd rewatch happily and, if you enjoy the first 3 or 4 episodes you'll probably enjoy most of it.

I loved Sons of Anarchy, but it does lose its way a bit, and they get a bit too fond of A-team style shoot outs towards the end too
