Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi folks I have a motor cycle that has been off the road for a long time the guy who was restoring it was very sick and only got it finished now

It was last taxed in1997, it's been locked up in a shed all that time

What is the procedure now about getting it taxed been so long off, do I have to back date this the road etc it would be Vintage now.

    Any help appreciated thanks

Not sure of the procedure now if the bike was untaxed before they changed the law and require you to declare before the tax runs out.

The easiest way would be to sell it and buy it back as the back tax is cleared when it's sold. You can "sell" it to a relative or your dog and "buy" if back as soon as the transfer is done.

The procedure when they changed the law was to make a SORD before the cut-off date (and continue to do so, before the SORD expires) - anyway, this was a long time back now.

The recommended route in this situation has been outlined by Del2005. Transfer ownership before taxing. If you need to transfer ownership back or take it off the road in future, you need to make an advance declaration (SORD) when the tax expires.

Is it in your name at the moment?

If not, just put it in your name and you’re only liable from now. If you’re not finished restoring it then you can do a SORD or just wait til you’re finished restoring to change ownership.

Yes, then when the person who you sold it to gets the log book they just sign it over to you and send it off to Shannon.

    As said here and del2005
Sell it to your brother then buy it back off your brother when you have it fixed/roadworthy and about to be insured by yourself
Also try get it back in your name at the very start of the month or the coming month
As the 1'st of the month is when your tax starts no matter what date it goes into your name during that month
