Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We need to come out as if it’s 0-0. They won’t outscore us by two goals unless we fall back and try to defend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

28 shots in the first half, between both teams, is the most ever recorded in a PL game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

    3-0! Grealish. Brilliant goal.

Great run from Jack, 1-2 with El Ghazi, Jack finished it.

3-0 GREALISH - it was so easy too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Nakamba superb winning ball back for that goal too.

Nakamba may prove to be our best bit of business over the summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Nearly 4. Jack flashes a shot just wide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 838 ✭✭✭rebelomar

Im all fir olaying out but I just wish Mings just every so often would clear his lines rather than being to intricate at the wrong time. It's a fine line.

To be fair he's trying to be positive in his play but needs to get the balance right.

Top player though. Been very good again today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

    4-0! Hourihane.

Great strike from outside the box. Had a very good game today.

A funny goal. Targett won ball back and looked ready to shoot until Hourihane took it off him and struck a beauty.

    HOURIHANE SPECIAL!!!!!

Norwich look shell shocked, especially in defence.

What a boost for us today!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

    Trez on for El Ghazi.

    2 assists for him today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Nakamba is a serious player. Broke up so much play today and got Villa on front foot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Konsa on for Engels, who went off injured after a little bit reckless tackle from Pukki.

Luiz on for Hourihane. Good performance today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭Easy Rod

Holding out for a clean sheet would be a nice cherry on top.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

    5-0!

A beauty from Luiz! Curled into top corner from outside the box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,088 ✭✭✭Patser

And now a LUIZ SPECIAL!!!!!! Anything Hourihane can do he can do Brazilian style better

Edit: Him and Wesley having fun on the pitch celebrating. Great to see a happy team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Villa have had 12 shots on target today and scored 5 goals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

5-1. Defensive mistake between Mings and Heaton. Heaton seemed to wait for it and then realise it wasn't bouncing back to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 838 ✭✭✭rebelomar

Too many errors from Mings. Needs to bloody concentrate.

Great goals though. Hourihane and Luiz with beautiful strikes

Mings had a very good game before that, and even that could have been avoided if Heaton kept coming and cleared it.

    Full time.

Great result and played some fantastic stuff today. Delighted for Wes, and nicely taken poached goals. Hourihane earning his starting spot now for sure, very good display. McGinn, Jack and Mings excellent again.

    Luiz goal.

    Wow, sensational result.

Excellent result /performance. This should raise confidence levels.
Man City lost here and we win 5-1 😂

Who gets man of the match?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Only 4 points off a Champions League place :P.

Nakamba MOTM for me. Broke up loads and does everything quick and simple. Brilliant to rapidly challenge players too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

Scott Hogan with the winner for Stoke in injury time too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,552 ✭✭✭✭CSF

    Well that was f*cking great

Lot nicer looking at the table now. Suddenly a mid table team with positive goal difference, than relegation zone leaking goals

    Top 4 in sight

McGinn is just brilliant. Energy, heart and then tricks like this too

Was in Dubai yesterday and only caught the result (100% win record while abroad is still intact).

How did we line up with Jack, Hourihane and McGinn? Seen the highlights and it looked almost like the 3 played behind Wes, Jack wasnt wide at all.

Some game from Hourihane as well, goal, assist and won the peno. Just watching post match interview as well, scored in all 4 leagues. That's some achievement for him. Hopefully he gets that more forward role for Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,088 ✭✭✭Patser

It was a bit like Targett, Grealish and Hourihane all took turns on the left depending on situation and space. And there was little rhyme or reason to it - just look at Hourihanes goal, as it was Targett who won the ball in a central AM position with Hourihane further right than him (and taking the ball off him).

So for a while Targett would bomb on, with Hourihane holding, but Hourihane would also often bomb on if he felt. The biggest unmentioned asset in all this was Marvellous, he really is a revelation, playing already at Kante levels in mopping up any break in the midfield - he's so fast and strong he just gets in and breaks up/ delays any attack while others get back to position.

Real pity about the Brighton, Wolves and Newcastle results. Big win like that and we dont look much better on the table. Had a good feeling we would spank some team at some stage with all the chances we are making.

It sounds weird but Mings looks like the weakest link with the mistakes in the last few games. I dont think that will last though.

Let’s just hope Brighton don’t get a result next weekend (against us) as Villa have some tough games coming up and vs like vs Norwich those could be some big points if villa can pick them up before those games.

To be honest I’m not even heavily considering Wolves in the race. Too good. Brighton and Newcastle results were very disappointing but thankfully we’re able to talk about it with a smile on our faces without it compounding further misery.

Villa were the first promoted side to score 5 goals away from home in the PL since Bolton in 2001.

Don't lose next week and we should be ahead of Man Utd in the table (can't see them getting anything from Liverpool and the goal difference is currently the same). Doesn't mean anything but will still be nice to see should it happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Funny thing about the season so far is, at the start, I fully expected Villa to lose a good few games early on, getting used to the step up etc and maybe getting hockeyed once or twice but that hasn't happened at all, and games lost have been in a different way. Spurs game was only one in general play, and that only came to the fore score wise in last 10 minutes. Didn't play well at Palace but should have drawn that from THAT decision.

Some song about Nakamba, apparently all over twitter.

McGinn playing in Russia tonight, any other starter racking up the air miles?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭LeBash

Just reading we are being linked with Bowen in Jan. Hes in the last year of his contract. Scores a lot of goals and plays wide, so he probably fits the bill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

McGinn first half hat-trick for Scotland v San Marino earlier.

Would be fantastic to see him repeat that for villa some day.

Mings to start for England tonight apparently. Delighted for him but from a selfish point of view we could have done without it.

Yeah, I can see it now...... Mings plays 89 mins mins and is out for 5 months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

Mings has all the physical attributes, just needs to cut out getting sloppy and complacent. Almost switches off at times.

He should be fine vs Bulgaria.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Good recognition for him. Has played very well except a few mistakes here and there. Probably would rather him not involved in the whole English media pit that is their national team to be honest.

Hourihane drops to the bench for the Swiss game.
