Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Third, I have an installation price, remove old boiler, and replace, for 2800 euro?

This job would take from 9 to 5.

    Does 2,800 seem ok?

It really depends on what you are getting for your money..

Are they power flushing the heating system and fitting a magnetic filter?

    Thanks

    Power flushing?

I'm not sure what that is, but emptying the radiators is included, yes, to get rid of any crud / build-up, etc.

And adding something to keep that water cleaner was mentioned, yes.

I think the magnetic filter was mentioned as an optional extra, so no I don't think it's included.

Emptying the radiators is not cleaning the system, probably going to do more harm than good by loosening up the crud in the pipework only for it to make it's way to your shiney new boiler.
Best to get a few quotes and to make sure that they include power flushing and a magnetic filter in their pricing.

I just want to check the price of a Viessmann 100W system boiler, 19 kw output.

I see on Precision Heating, it's 1672.31 excl VAT, so that's 2057 euro incl VAT.............

FWIW If the installer supplies the boiler I'd expect the VAT to be at the reduced rate. Also asking installer to supply may make things easier for you in the event of issues while in warranty.

Paying over a grand for a boiler is madness. Viesmann are over hyped, over priced lumps of unattractive plastic boilers. They were hugely popular in my area and I’m probably called out to repair them more than any other modern boiler. I never understood the attraction to these. Decent heat exchanger is all they have going for them.

Are you able to tell us the top three boilers for reliability based on your experience please?

Bosch would be very reliable. A pig to work on but reliable. Ariston are up there too. I’ve fitted a lot and never had an issue. Immergas are unbreakable, a serious machine. Potterton actually make a decent boiler too

I solely fit bosch. I'd say there very easy to work on but that opinion.

Found them to be very reliable. Very for consumers to use.

Different installers have different opinions on boilers,i fit a lot of Viessmanns and never have breakdowns on them.
I would definitely repair more Bosch’s,very rare that a Viessmann breaks down through bad quality parts.
Blocked hoses from a filthy system that hasn’t been power flushed, yes.

As they say,no such thing as a bad boiler, just bad installers.

I had a Viessmann Vitodens 24KW LPG system boiler installed about in April 21 and it cost around 4K. I have hot water priority set up on my system and seemingly the Viessman was the only one which had the 4 pipes to accommodate this.

Great warranty with the Viesmann which precision honour very easliy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 174 ✭✭Basilio

Still waiting for reply from precision. Will see how long will it take before it will be resolved. First time (3y old boiler) they claimed water quality was the reason for failure and made me to pay for the repair. Now I am ready to pay but nobody to do the job.

if your boiler is a combi then water quality may be an issue. If it’s just a system boiler and the system is power flushed the water quality has nothing to do with it

  • Registered Users Posts: 174 ✭✭Basilio

Could be the case but some testing and proof from Viessmann would be welcome. After first failure of three year old boiler Viessmann did not make any adjustment to installation. Water in my district is not hard and evidence of this would be condition of electric shower head. There is evidence online of boiler failure on a unit connected to underfloor heating system. Long story short. Can you recommend any installer who can install boiler and honor warranty? I prefer ATAG or Intergas. Thanks.

Got reply from Viessmann today, Kevin over the phone admitted "boiler gets blocked because rubber hoses are attracting dirt from the system and Viessmann replaced them with copper on newer models".

Local installer of Ariston is quoting half the price of a Viessmann (as per Advanced Heating price €3800.00) and happy with the water quality without need for water cleaning system (+€900.00). Got my boiler going again after friendly technician got it sorted in about one hour time.

ATAG head office responded promptly and sent installers details ready to undertake a job in my area.

Following this discussion with interest. I've a 13 year old Ideal Elise that's potentially heading for expensive repairs and likely I'll have to replace it. Was massively impressed with the reviews of both the Viessman Vitodens and Worcester Bosch. My gas installer recommended both and will fit whichever I want and can repair either too. I think he said the VV was around €100 dearer. He will also fit those magna filters and do a full power flush before installing.

@PukkaStukka @Basilio Did either of you go ahead with your installs? what did you go for in the end?

Have an Ariston, which Ive been told is on its last legs!

@rightjob! where are you based any interest in quoting for a job in dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,181 ✭✭✭PukkaStukka

In the end I went for the Worcester Bosch. I also needed to get pipework changed (legacy of an attic conversion) and our rather aged hot water cylinder replaced, all of which put the cost right up. The WB was working out cheaper so went with it. Great boiler though.

@PukkaStukka I'm also in north dublin and have a 16y old ideal boiler that's on its way out and look to replace. Could you PM me any recommendations who you went with in the end its

  • Registered Users Posts: 113 ✭✭Scoopsire

Thanks for coming back on this, yeah the Worcester Bosch boilers seem to be cheaper and more widespread based on the very limited number of quotes Ive had to date

Got specialist from NI who managed to flush pipes within the boiler. See how long will it go, maybe 2-3 years if i am lucky.

How much on average are people being charged for a new boiler
