Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    The final match. :)

First to 6 votes. Winner has to win by two clear votes. Two strong contenders, and as DvB said- it's Craggy v Barry!

    Gavin & Stacey for me.

From the opening with Smithy ringing Gav & them singing band aid together it had me captured... have watched it every christmas since it was first shown in 2008 & have no plans to drop it any year soon.

For me the its best christmas special ever.

    Gavin and Stacey for me.
I suppose for a big part of it because it feels real.
    Families meeting up for Christmas.
    There’s the journey.
The shopping scene in M&S feels like Christmas shopping in Ireland/UK.
    Smithy and Gavin singing.
Pam being in a flap about guests calling.
    The elderly relatives.
    Baileys being mentioned.
    The fight on Christmas Eve.
    Awkwardness between relatives.(Camping Trip).
Everything being okay the next morning.
    Talking about cooking the turkey.
    Swopping presents.
Gavin sticking to the small present rule.
    A proposal.
    Moaning about TV/soaps.
Then a song at the end.

    It’s perfect in every way.

This is a dead split for me...

Gavin and stacey special nails everything about every family Christmas, the drama, the hype leading up to the day, all the details that the others gave before me.

But im gonna have to go with Father Ted, maybe its more of a nostalgia thing as i would have been younger watching it at the time it was released, but everything from the womens lingerie section, to the golden cleric celebrations to the christmas film about the man who breaks into peoples houses at night and kills them in their sleep. its all brilliant.

    Father ted gets my vote

    Gavin and Stacey

While it’s hard to vote against Ted - G&S captures the Christmas feeling

    Father Ted.

    Fr.Ted.
I associate it with younger years and more tranditional christmasy feelings ,like santa.
I quote it on the regular still!

Gavin and Stacey for me, making it 4-4.

Main reason is really it's lot more Christmassy than Ted, with a better, funnier plot. Ted is a bit disjointed, more like 2 episodes strung together.
I still love it though, of course! :D

The bit in the lingerie department of the shopping centre was a real WTF part of it. The weakest bit of both finalists IMO.

Exactly what you'd want for the final really... a one sided final would be a tad anticlimactic...;)

4 minutes between winning and leveling up!

    Great final.

This one was much better then I though it was going to be.

Thanks Posy for organising and looking forward to the next one (once you had a well deserved rest)

Sorry to see Father Ted fall at the last hurdle :( I just don’t get the love for Gavin and Stacey, I don’t find it funny at all

Be thank you to Posy for hosting the tournament :)

I’m the exact same. “Gavin and Stacey” is never watched in this house around the festive time of year ://

    I just don’t get it.

Very much a traditional Irish Christmas household here.

It doesn’t give me that christmas feeling whereas something like the various Christmas cookery shows or Christmas hymns and carols would ....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,502 ✭✭✭✭DvB

There's plenty of stuff out there I simply don't get either, that Mrs browns boys for example, it's utter utter garbage but loved by the masses. Its the sun newspaper of the comedy world IMO, but there's plenty who'll argue the opposite.

But as I always say, if we all liked the same things it would be a boring world.

Anyway, a deserving winner IMO, but I'd have had no issues with 5 or 6 others winning it either.

So on to the next one...

It is, I was hoping somebody might spot him.
He lives there the whole year and his name is Dáithí.

Delighted G&S won, I love Ted but as DvB put it that episode was a bit disjointed.

G&S for me arrived at a crossroads in my life and it matched up in some respects. I don't have a connection with that Fr Ted episode.

Thank you Posy for this thread.
