Just rang them myself there as need to get a car picked up in Southampton Docks and delivered to Dublin - same price €275+VAT.

Has anyone used NVD in the past - what has the experience been? I've heard some scary stories of lads not exactly being careful with the cars while in their possession, but imagine them being a professional outfit they should be good.

I used NVD to ship a car from Wexford to London. The car had a very dicky transmission but they got it there with no issues

When importing using a transport company, have you already traveled over to the UK to view the car first?

I was thinking of getting an RAC check done an if that goes well I'd be purchasing without viewing. Is that crazy?

Are these companies aware of the car import process and ensure they get the V5C, proof of sale off the dealer, along with ferry/transport receipt for NCT centre?

    Thanks!

Getting a mechanic to test the vehicle would be essential if you're planning to drive it. I bought a car privately (on Ebay) sight unseen to use as a donor for a kit car build, and had the seller drop it to the NVD depot, which he was bemused with. NVD delivered to a trusted mechanic here to give the drivetrain the once over. It worked out extremely well in my case. As I was using only parts the history was mostly not that important to me. It did have the V5C, manuals, MOTs and some receipts etc in the glovebox.

It's all a function of who you buy from really.
The wife bought a 2012 Lexus from Murphy Doyle in D24 there last year and it has significantly less documentation, and they either weren't able or didn't try very hard to find it. 12 months later still no service book, just the manuals.

Yes, we've used them here at work on more than one occasion, no problems.

I used Dekra to inspect a car for me and they saved me the cost of cancelling a flight over and the return ferry.

I've just done a deal on a car in London that will need transport back, could you send me the details too please Kadman if you don't mind

I think the going rate for car transport from anywhere in the UK to anywhere in Ireland is about €400 incl. VAT from a reputable firm that has insurance etc.

If anyone has any good experience of a service, they can post the details here direct, no need for PMs

I'm being quoted 630 from Croydon to Dublin, trying to get that down a bit. Car will drive onto a trailer too, not much further though ha

    Hi,

Im just wondering if any of you guys ended up using Con Curtin in the end?

Im looking at using him to bring in a car from the UK asap and would appreciate a PM with from anyone that used him.

    Cheers

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,057 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

I used him for a pickup in Ireland, but not the UK.

Like I said in an earlier post. I found him to be an absolute gent, and he is/was
a classic car owner too. So he knows how we feel about our precious little gems.:D

Con Curtin just delivered my Daimler from UK to West Cork. Price as above plus a bit for delivery down from Dublin.
I am happy to recommend him and very much doubt anyone could do it cheaper and make a profit!

He stored the car for a few days until the weather abated to avoid any issues on the motorway with wind, rain and passing lorries.
    Top man.

So how much would it be from say London to one's home in the Dublin area?

I decided on the one man one truck option as less chance of damage. Been hammering down since delivery.
VRT slot has come up tomorrow..........
