Even with Hamilton not racing poor Max still can't beat the Mercs

Bottas crapping himself there I’d say. Great lap from Russell.

Charles out of the car lol

    And safe in 4th!

He ran out of tyres. Astonishing result for LeClerc in the Ferrari. Nine places ahead of Seb

Also a great result for Kvyat beating Gasley and Russel in solid second.

Close enough between Bottas and Russell, but star of the show Leclerc. P4 in that Scutteria Ferrari. Just unbelievable!

Good lap from Kvyat as well

P2 is an excellent performance from George

Must’ve got a monster tow from someone.

He did, off Sainz. He paid him back on another lap, according to Sainz on the radio.

Think Bottas sand bagging most of the weekend so far

Listening to Sky commentary is painful - thankfully Brundle trying to be more realistic.

Don’t think he was sandbagging, sloppy all weekend and again with his final lap and only beats Russell by .02s. Still, he got pole so job done, barely. Hopefully it’s an interesting race tomorrow.

Bottas car had damage yesterday which is why his pace was off

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Gaoth Laidir

Leclerc has just confirmed that he did have another set of tyres left but decided himself to call it a day after going out early.

Well that was exciting. Enjoying this track layout so far. Tomorrow will be interesting. Bottas has been a bit all over the shop all weekend, really driving like a fella under pressure. Great job by Russell. Really should be driving the merc next year. Will be a shame to see him back in the williams. Curious to see how he gets on tomorrow. Has built a reputation of being a Saturday specialist. Can't judge him on one race i suppose but curious to see if he fades tomorrow or not. Max looks dangerous starting P3. Though on a different tyre, really needs to get a good start for once.

Because he was driving off the track. No excuses today and was sloppy again. Anyway, he did enough.

Kvyat doing his best to stay in F1 as Tsunoda piles on pressure for the second AlphaTauri seat.

Albon doing his best to get a sabbatical.

Great effort by George. I would say he is in with a good shout tomorrow.

Bottas with that insufferable comment trying to belittle George "Not my best qualifying". Would it have killed him to say god job.

Considering how short and fast the track was it was always gonna be tight anyways, bottas was never going to blow him away so like you said could have just said good job

Trevor Carlin more or less confirmed Tsunoda is replacing Kyvat next season - still a very good quali

Not good for Albon - hard to see how he can be retained at this rate.

He knows the pressure he’s under. Very defensive comment by Bottas.

Bottas has really found out this year that he’s not going to do a Rosberg and challenge Hamilton, and now Russell is gunning for his seat and the world and its mother want Russell to be great. Not defending him but it must be tough on the ego.

He may pick up a test driver roll like he did with Ferrari the last time Redbull kicked him out. Who knows he could pick a seat in 2021 , there are three Italian teams and he lives there and speaks the language ðŸ˜႒

Wolff said that Lewis will most likely be driving in Abu Dhabi next week. Apparently he's currently not feeling the best so is not one of the lucky asymptomatic ones.

Albon did okay, no mistakes. His qualifying results, at least, are better than Gasly's (Red Bull) ones. Vettel and Raikkonen both need a retirement vehicle.

Puzzled that it was only himself who tested positive. Would assume more Mercedes people to have been affected

Apparently lots of people have tested positive but they’ve just been left at home and others replace them. They don’t make the news and it’s not in anyone’s interest to publicise it.

Edit: I don't mean loads of Mercedes team members in particular, I mean plenty of normally travelling team members over the course of the year. We'd only hear about it if they were a name we'd recognise.

Nice comparison of Bottas' and Russell's qualifying laps today. Bottas well ahead until the final corner, where a bit of oversteer made Russell close in on him.

Listening to the post race interviews is genuinely hilarious.

Bottas be like yeah I had a ****e qualy.

Russell be like yeah I had flute all time to get used to the car set up etc.

So Bottas is basically saying yeah I had an off day and I still beat you.

And Russel is saying fu ck off I’ve only driven this car for about ten mins and I’m still within an arses road of you you useless piece of........

Maybe he was just been honest and maybe it was nothing against Russel at all. Maybe Bottas just thought he had done a bad job.

I would so love if he did do that next year now and then decided to retire and let George Russel have his seat. It would mean Hamilton would have to get WDC 8 in 2022 as well so he would be there at least two more years.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Some of Russell's team radio is on YouTube and on the drive back to the pits after qualifying the engineer gives him an instruction to make an adjustment on the steering wheel. A slight pause and George replies with 'how do I do that!?' To be within a few thousands of Bottas while not being familiar and knowing the systems in the car is a phenomenal achievement.

Effectively admitting that neither of them actually needs to drive well to have 1-2 sewn up.

    Well yes and no.

Bottas has had years driving a car pretty much moulded to his every wish.

Russell wanders in the door and nearly beats him in his first qualy run.

Bottas could, and imo will, be really badly shown up today for the bang average driver that he is.

Bottas was obviously fine, doesn't get close to him most of the time.
