Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tough year ahead maybe for Altuve and the rest of them.

    The Commissioner didnt do enough.

Cheating is cheating , if all the Astros players were caught 100% using steroids can you imagine the ban they would have handed down?

    How is this different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,589 ✭✭✭circular flexing

    How is this different.

It's different because unlike steroids there's no test for sign stealing and the price for player testimony was immunity.

I've also seen it mentioned that after the Red Sox sign stealing investigation in 2017, the commissioner issued a directive that placed the onus on the GM/field manager to prevent any sign stealing from happening on their team. This is why Hinch and Lunhow were suspended and not the players. Given the players have union protections, any disciplinary procedures against them would likely fail.

Obviously the whole thing stinks and is wrong but MLB set themselves up for this.

Surprised to see Tim Tebow still knocking around the minors.

The fact that he hit a HR in a spring training game and the media are doing cartwheels reminds me as to why I want him to disappear again. He's just a distraction.

Yankees not having much luck to start the season

It happens to great players not just the Tim Tebows of this league

I had never heard of Jomboy until he did that video of the Astros with the bin but since then I've fallen into a rabbit hole of watching all his Breakdown videos on on brawls, ejections and other stuff that gores on in baseball games. Some of it is very funny. Well worth a watch if you have a big of time to kill

    Looks good don't you think?

Much more attractive with the roof open. Reminds me of Safeco. They do need a roof they play in brutally hot weather during the summer. Nice photo gallery online

Looks good but is also a colossal waste of money considering how new Globe Life Park is and as usual the public end up picking up a significant portion of the cost.

We need that roof! Can't have people sweltering in the heat now can we....?????

Yeah, I agree a complete scam for the taxpayers. I don't know for sure but they probably subsidised Jerry World to some degree as well.

Hopefully people will remember this on Bobby Bonilla day

    https://twitter.com/mikemayerMMO/status/1237451252805652480

(and that Boston are paying $50.5m this season on players who won't play for them this year).

Looks like the Governor of Washington is going to ban public gatherings of more than 250 people which would obviously impact Seattle Mariners. Mariners are discussing staying in Arizona and playing home games there.

The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if we see opening day delayed or games played in empty stadiums

I believe from mates in NewYork that it looks like the season will be indefinitely suspended.

Baseball’s probably the league that can adapt to a closure the best. Say they start in May or June, a 120 game season or whatever wouldn’t take away from the integrity of the season.

and the double headers option too.

and the double headers option too.

They have more options then other sports. Off course it all depends how this plays out. Most predictions suggest this wont peak until June. Lets hope not

Why not play behind closed doors? Some stadiums are like that on a normal day anyway. I was in Marlins park with less than 3000 other souls.

Strong indications that MLB will now suspend operations. Probably the only choice they have now considering NHL also shut down.

The right call. Agree. I imagine we're looking at a delay of at least a month

Tommy John for Noah Syndergaard. No baseball going on and there's still bad news for Mets fans.

This could only happen to the Mets giving what is going down in the US. He may not miss so much baseball given that a shortened season is the best we can hope for.

How is it they can do the TJ surgery on Syndegaard 'right away' in NYC. I thought hospitals had much higher priorities, and this is elective surgery at best. Seems wrong somehow.

Did you not hear the Donald speaking. This will all have blown over in a few weeks. He's got a good feeling about it.

What do you make of this? Baseball in May, all in Arizona. Seems a bit optimistic to me.

Honestly, I'm fully prepared for there to be no sports for the rest of the year. The risks are too high.

Yeah, beginning to feel that way myself. Cancelled my MLB.TV sub today and refund due in 3-5 days.

ESPN talked to a few of the players anonymously and it sounds like there's a lot of pushback from the players at the idea of being holed up in Arizona for 4+ months.

Mlb seems to be eyeing a July return. The latest idea being thrown around seems to be three 10 team divisions and start playing in Arizona , Florida hopefully moving to home ballparks when safe .Its probably wishful thinking but it would be something to look forward to.

Hopefully something happens, if only to save us from the stuff reporters have had to resort to writing about. The top story on MLB.com's daily news email today is "The best left fielder in each team's history".

I just can't see this Arizona/Miami thing working.. Its all down to greed, same as the NFL.. way too much money involved so i can only imagine the pressure coming from sponsors etc

Players aren’t getting paid while games aren’t being played so I’m sure they’re itching to get back too. The superstars on big contracts probably not as much as the regular roster player though.

Another proposal being suggested now is 80 game season starting in July with expanded rosters and postseason. Teams would play in their home stadiums where possible and games would mostly be in the same division.

Don’t think that’ll happen if as is suggested the players have to take a significant wage cut. That seems to be the big stumbling block ahead for MLB.

To be more precise, one of the biggest issues is that the owners want to split salary based on revenue (which is effectively a salary cap). The players union has been successful in avoiding a salary cap like other major sports so far and it feels like owners are trying to introduce salary cap through the back door. If the proposal was to pay 1/2 salary for 80 games, I think players would be on board with that.

Sign him as insurance for Syndegaard (o.k., I'm joking. It'd be entertaining for a start or two.)

I watched my first KBO game today. Enjoyable enough although at certain times during the game they bring out the cheer squads who make an awful racket for the 0 fans in attendance.

Not looking good for any play this season now, the owners have now proposed a sliding scale salary arrangement

    https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1265422054880358402

Obviously the players are opposed to this structure so there's still more negotiation to be done. Hard to know when the cutoff date would be but I imagine if there's no agreement in the next week or so then it'll be too late.

Based on that proposal its difficult to see any agreement being reached
