Back in the day
when I was still a teenager,
I wore a watch for a while.

It was handy, I suppose,
Knowin' Da Time,
though it hardly mattered.

If someone ever asked me,
do you know what time it is?
I could just look at my watch
and say, yeah, I do.

Or if I was waiting for a bus,
I could hold out my wrist
for everyone to see,
and say, friggin' bus shoulda bin 'ere
ten minutes ago, at least.

And then everyone would gawk
into their own watches,
and shake their heads in dismay,
cursing their naïve expectations.

Sure, it was handy, once in a while,
but other than that...?

Yeah sure, that's what he says.
But here's the thing.

He's not Sicilian, he's not even Italian,
and he's not in the Mafia, neither,
and yet he always says, Capisce?
every time he gets the chance.

Like, what's all that about, eh?
