Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ireland has had some relationship with Argentina from quite an early period.
As early as 1535 you can read of two Irish brothers participating in the expedition of Pedro de Mendoza to the River Plate. These were Juan and Tomas Farrel, and they are believed to be the first Irishmen to set foot in what is now Argentina.

The first record of Darwin's idea that all living things are related and share a common ancestry came when he sketched a diagram of an evolutionary tree.

The branching lines of the evolutionary tree were based on the structure of an alga specimen (Amphiroa orbignyana), which Darwin collected in Argentina.

The earliest reference to hurling in Argentina dates from the late 1880s in the ranching town of Mercedes, Buenos Aires, a major center of the Irish-Argentine community. Games of hurling were played every weekend until 1914 and received frequent coverage even from Argentina's Spanish language newspapers like La Nacion

In 1999 Argentina's gross domestic product dropped 4% and the country entered a recession, which lasted three years, ending in a collapse. Economic stability became economic stagnation (even deflation at times), and the economic measures taken did nothing to avert it; in fact, the government continued the contractive economic policies of its predecessor. The possible solution (abandonment of the exchange peg, with a voluntary devaluation of the peso) was considered a political suicide and a recipe for economic disaster.

Boca Juniors, one of Argentina's big two football clubs, acquired their team colours in unusual fashion. The founders of the club, which is based in Barrio Boca, BA, couldn't agree on what colour their kit should be. Sitting on the docks arguing, they eventually agreed the colours of the new club. It would be decided by the colours on the flag of the next ship that sailed into the harbour. That ship was Swedish, & from that day to this, Boca have worn the famous blue & yellow!

The Pink Fairy Armadillo is the smallest species of armadillo, growing only to approximately 3½ – 4½ inches long, excluding its tail. It is found in central Argentina, where it inhabits dry grasslands and sandy plains with thorn bushes and cacti. It has the ability to bury itself completely in a matter of seconds if frightened. Me gusta!
