Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah has a spinner. Pat lawlor must be a fan of them :)

Working the next few days so I'll put up some more pics when I get it back up on its legs and set up. Still Has the licence disc on it from 98/99

This is actually from an arcade in Tramore and I used to play it and Theatre of Magic out there the whole time. Now I own them both! Thanks to Mitch for holding onto it for me :P!

Yeah, they have them listed on their website. €30 for Red, Blue, Silver and Gold and I think it's €33 for Yellow and €35 for Crystal.

Yes, in fact they sold me a Super GnG GBA bootleg before. Only bootleg I ever got stung with.

The new device in my life seems to be a bit patchy on what it'll read.
There's a few NES and GB carts that refuse to be read.
Others work fine so some cleaning to be done.

I never thought his ban was lifted. He had a valid point iirc, they just didn't like hearing it.

Yeah I was just recommending RGB cables to someone not happy with composite video quality.

Ciderman you sure it's not just bad emulation meaning those games won't run? Pretty sure it still have problems with some games that use extra chips like Castlevania 3.

    No, don't think so.
It was a copy of Donkey Kong Classic and Lifeforce for the NES, as well as Tetris DX and RType DX for the GBC, everything else was working, like a Jap copy of Kirbys Fun Pak for the Snes.

Here's Castlevania 3 on the Retron 5 for example

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 664 ✭✭✭Tomo.Murphy

I have seen a couple of fakes in there. I saw two copies of Castlevania Aria of Sorrow recently enough. €20ish euro each. They stood out when I was going through the carts. The label art was stretched beyond recognition.

Watching a few YouTube videos about them would save them a small fortune.

Edit: something else I noticed the last time I was in there. I picked up Sonic Adventure 2 for €12.95 a few months ago in there. It's now somewhere around the €45 mark.

After years of searching I finally got my hands on one of these (paid stupid money for it as well). You'd need to of a certain vintage and have owned an Amstrad to appreciate it :)

    I remember Romantic Robot alright,
They used to have little black and white ads in the gaming press of the time, selling games and peripherals like that.
They were a ZX specialist in the main, weren't they, although must have been more of a Z80 specialist when they made CPC devices too.
    Well done there.

Ya they started doing ZX stuff alright, the first Multiface was for the Spectrum. Great hacking/'backup' tool.

Remember seeing all the Multiface cheat codes for games in the various mags but could never enter them until now, maybe I finally get to finish Highway Encounter !!

actually, I don't buy that. It's plenty sexy. It's got some Japanese, some Japanese style cartoon, the MSX2 logo, a keyboard, the SCC chip logo and the old Konami logo
    ...AND a boomerang.

    damn that's sexy!! :D

Aleste Gaiden is an exception though. It was never released as a cart. It was part of a Disk Station compilation.

Sort of similar-ish but actually not really at all similar to stuff like this:

I didn't know that. I meant more along the lines of this. It's the thought of people trying to pass them off as the real thing when selling them.

Tracked these down lately. R-Type III and Knights of the Round are both complete, which for either is tough enough to find. Boxes are bit tatty round the edges, but mostly in decent condition.

Absolutely. Don't agree with that at all. With the Aleste Gaiden repro it's kind of good in a way because the Disk Station volume is hard enough to find in it's own right. Deserved an MSX cart.

    For Extra Fever... :o

Pocky and Rocky, I love that game. Picked it up a while ago in a trade for some neo geo pocket stuff, have the two of them now on sfc. That's a real nice bundle.

Very cool game alright. I actually had Pocky and Rocky on PAL when I was younger, sold it for not that much to save up for N64. Could nearly buy a PS4 with the money I'd get for it alone now :(

Knights of the Round is amazing. It will always remind me of throwing money at it with my cousin playing for hours and eating greasy chips. Summer 1995, damn that's fecking ages ago.

I was in the CEX shop today and picked up this little gem,
    tZjshL1.jpg?1s
Only six euro as well, happy days.
I do love me some R-Type, whatever the format, and I have most of them although I have never tried this turn based variant.

Sadly Star Ocean for the PS2 is long gone, should've picked it up when I spotted it a couple of weeks ago!

The whole business with Amazon and the feck up with the preorder price.
But it's an amazing package at full price, at less than €40 it's brilliant value.

Got some racing games on the Saturn the other day. Must try out the Manx TT sheep mode now.:D

    xohc49.jpg

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,633 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Manx TT is very good, though compares poorly to the arcade version tbh
Plus, by that stage, the Playstation really had the racing genre covered.
I think Sega Rally was the zenith of Saturn racing games.
It slipped after that with the aforementioned bike racer and the awful Sega Touring Car.
Virtua Racing on the format isn't terribly but it pales before the 32X version. The PS2 version is pretty great too.

On a related note, I received a Rally Bike/Dash Yarou pcb today!! :)
