Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The level design is indeed the games saving grace. I could never really get very interested in the sequels because the environments felt quite bland by comparison. I haven't played the newest one but I get the impression it'd be the sort of linear set piece event game that I'd be utterly bored by.

I remember having camera issues with Tomb Raider, is that the case?

Oh the Tomb Raider control scheme is taken wholesale from Prince of Persia. It's exactly the same other than the inclusion of the z-axis. You have to walk slowly through spikes and even jumping follows the same pattern, walk slowly to a ledge and jumping back gives you enough momentum to make a running jump perfectly.

    I got something right!
    I'm not entirely wrong!
Either way it's been a Valentines day to remember!

Got out the PSP Go this morning and spent an hour or two playing Motorstorm Arctic Edge on it.
A lot of fun I have to say.
I must pick up the PS2 version.

Currently playing through Treasure Island Dizzy on the Famicom mostly as a test run of capturing footage on my PC.

No health bar and only 1 life and certain death at every corner... I'll be sure to share the video footage once I'm done... I was pretty close to the end just there but a rock fell on my eggy head and I died... Have to start all over from the beginning again now.

Sounds more like Humpty Numpty than dizzy!

I love the music in the c64 version. Someone needs to make a reggae cover of it.

There's a good few out there if you are after one.
The battery life and screen are great though the design is hard to hold for long periods.
No point in buying one without sticking custom firmware on it as there is a wide breadth of homebrew and ways to get your PS collection onto it.
And for the more yo ho ho of us there are less than legit ways to install PSP games too, allegedly.
I like that I can install my copy of Einhander on it and take it with me!
Storage is decent as well, with plenty of space for your collection although there is little advantage to owning the machine over its UMD capable older brother with a decent sized Memory Stick.

Did you play Ocarina of Time before, or are the mechanics of the game completely new to you?
    Either way, enjoy the adventure!

I owned ocarina of time on the n64 but have not played that in 15+ years even though I do own it on 3ds too. I have to admit I'm finding majoras mask hard to get into so far though

Majora's Mask takes a long time to click. It wasn't until I had beaten the first dungeon that all the pieces came together and I realised it was such an amazing game.

    Donkey Kong Junior.

What an unforgiving bastid of a game.

Updated. I was playing Donkey Kong Junior.

i just finished skies of arcadia on dc i enjoyed it has anyone played evolution or silver on dc and are they any good

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,827 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Evolution is pretty crappy. I've heard some good things about Silver but I'd put money on it being a bit rubbish. I would suggest playing Grandia 2 instead which is a fantastic game if not as good as the original.

i played Grandia 2 before skies of arcadia those are best 2 on DC, rpgs start going downhill after that i have silver, timestalkers, evolution, record of lodoss war so ill get out my psp have couple rpgs for that

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,827 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Record of Lodoss War is meant to be a lot of fun but becomes near impossible towards the end.

On PSP my advice is play Tactics Ogre or Trails in the Sky.

Had the Amiga 600 out doing a big of soldering. Ended up on Last Ninja 3 for a while and then a bit of Frontier.
I must say, didn't enjoy playing Ninja 3 as much as I did back in the day, the controls :0/
And Frontier, dat frame rate on the A600  Some difference between my slightly upgraded A600 and very upgraded A1200 on that game.

JoJos Bizarre Adventure on the PS1, its story mode is completely different to the dreamcast version with many QTEs. Worse graphics but I am glad that its a bit different. I also got the PS3 JoJo all stars game but I am yet to unwrap it.

The PS3 Jojo is a lot of fun to play, definitely give it a bash!

Currently replaying Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu on the NES. Something of a forgotten gem that some might dismiss on account of its license, but beneath its cutesy graphics lies an incredibly tightly made platformer with surprising depth. One of my Nintendo favourites as a child which alongside Little Nemo has proven its gameplay to be timeless. Well worth a play if you've yet to.

I finally beat that blasted level 2 boss, the Viking owl, in DKC Tropical Freeze.
    About a year that was.
    An absolute b@stard.

Got sick of Bloodborne's load times so decided to bring the snes downstairs and hook it up to the CRT that is in the main sitting room. It makes such a massive difference compared to the LCD I have in my room, everything looks so much better. Anyway I played and finished Donkey Kong Country in 90 minutes, I forgot just how little game is in it! Then I beat majyuuou, great game even if the price I paid was a bit steep! Then I started the fan translation of FFV on my SD2SNES. That game is a lot of fun.

So does the PS4 suffer from the same loadtime issue as the PS3?

CRT is so good for retro, graphics are always so crisp.

It just seems to be a Bloodborne issue but in a game where you die an awful lot and have to sit through a very plain loading screen for 40-50 seconds it can get infuriating.
