Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

XBOX original. Any point buying one in 2019?

So I recently bought a 2005 original XBOX with games and extra controller for what I thought was a good price of €70. He also threw in a non working American XBOX. Unfortunately with the PAL version I was greeted with a Service Error 12 message after trying it on a second TV.

Upon trying Silent Hill 2 in my XBOX 360 it would not load and gave a black screen. I then inspected all of the game discs and I could they have multiple even circles around them possibly due to the disc tray or drive.

Can anyone give me some advice on buying one second hand please. I know the disc drives can go like on most old consoles so can I expect a working one to eventually go and have to fork out more money for repairs?

They're pretty good emulation machines. I'd be looking at getting a modded one with a big hard-drive loaded up with games. There's a guy selling on adverts for €60 which looks a good deal to me - https://www.adverts.ie/xbox/original-xbox-soft-modded/17365930

They're a pretty great emulation machine when modded and if modded you don't have to worry about disc drive.

Was hoping to keep the PAL console in its original state

TBH it's better to mod it; lower load times & you don't have to worry about failing DVD drive/discs.

IDK where you'd even find OG drives at this stage, considering the machine was discontinued 10-12 years ago.

Defo agree, we had a modded xbox in our student house. The joy of not having to footer around looking for discs and the improved load times were the main bonus for me.
