Workhouse records

I have came across potential relatives' death certs from the GRO where their location was marked as the local Workhouse. Apologies if this has been asked already but were Workhouse records kept and are they available to view? Would be great to cross reference these people with their address upon entering. Peter Higginbotham's site covers the UK and Ireland on workhouses and is vg.
