Where to go for a retreat?

A friend is wanting to go on a retreat in an attempt to deal better with many issues in their personal life.

They've come across Glenstal Abbey and Lake Isle retreats so far. They're not religious but apparently Glenstal is open to all?

Has anyone any knowledge of the above or any others?

Possibly better asked on the Christianity forum, see https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=333

My bad. Mis-read the opening post, saw Glenstal Abbey and retreat together and assumed religious retreat. There's a bunch of options listed here; https://www.alustforlife.com/soul/feeling-fed-up-maybe-you-need-a-retreat

No worries I was thinking you misread the post after I posted my response.

The cliffs retreat is meant to be quite good.

Lovely part of the country hope to be down there a few times over the summer. Thinking about there's a place a small bit further down the coast that also to yoga and meditation weekends, https://purecamping.ie/ Been there a number of times, really lovely people and a great vibe.

If somebody wishes quiet time away from the crowd, then I can't recommend better than a week or two on the Camino de Santiago - lovely, long walks in beautiful places, with good food and friendly people, and as little or as much of all of these as you wish.

Glenstal has a guest house which is open to all and while you're expected to show up at some of the religious services, it's not required and you can probably come and go as much as you like. In any case, the services there tend to be filled with Gregorian Chant - something which any person seeking peace will enjoy.

Are they looking for guidance and directed activity or just a relaxed place to chill where they can sort their own issues?

Guidance and directed activity. Something with chanting that they can attend, any denomination.

Glenstal should be able to provide as much chant as one could wish for, with extra chanting to spare.

I'm thinking .. sweat lodge, wolf howling, bonfire, whipping with birch twigs, animal spirit guides. Would that suit? Directed but not too formal.

I was going to say there too. https://www.dzogchenbeara.org/

Not my cup of cha but many a time I have dropped people back there after they went for a walk and didn't take the Irish weather into account.

Stunning location and lots to do in the area from sea kayaking, to hiking, to pony trekking.
