Can anyone recommend a free alternative to EZDrummer?

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if any of you can recommend a free VST drumkit that would be as simple to use as EZdrummer?

I have EZ Drummer Lite on a desktop here but i'll be working on the laptop for the next while and I'll need something to play along to as i've never been able to play to a click but I've no problems once i've a drum synth etc.

It doesn't need to sound great or anything (as i can slip in ezdrummer when i'm back on the laptop) once it sounds semi-drumish and works with a PC with Reaper as the DAW.

    Thanks guys
    C.

PS. I've tried copying EZDrummer lite onto my external hard-drive but it didn't work.

Look up ReaDrummer on the CockOS forums.
It's a template made up by a user with ReaSampler.
Simple load up some of the great samples into the kit pieces, customise it to the way you like to work, save it as your own "EZDrums" template and work away.
Not nearly as slick lookinig as EZDrummer but it's free and works just as well.

Why can't you install it onto the laptop the same way you installed it onto the desktop?

XLNaudio do a free version of Addictive drums. It'll do what you want.

    Cheers.

Well EZDrummer Lite comes with an authorisation key which i thought was just for the one computer...but just checking my account on toontracks there I think it might be possible to have it authorised on 2 (still not 100% sure) but i'll give it a shot.

But if so would i be better downloading it on to my external h'drive (iomega Prestige 500G USB 2.0) then i could use it on whichever computer i'm working on...or would this be unadvisable?

Might actually give this another shot though i did actually have the free version of Addictive Drums before but it just stopped working out of the blue!!

    Thanks guys

I don't have EZDrummer Lite but this is what I see on my Toontrack account page:

    authorisations.png

You can see that more than one authorisation is possible on the lower right. Do you see something similar?

I assume that the software will be checking to see what kind of drive it's installed on and refusing to work if it's on removable media.

Does your laptop have a really small internal hard drive or something that's preventing you from installing onto it?

Yeah i have the exact same thing...but why are there 2 sets of authorisations? Does it mean I'm currently using 1 out of a possible 2 or that i could use 4 different authorisations...sorry to sound stupid on this.

Yeah its pretty much full at the moment as well but i'll see if i can delete something off it and fit ezdrummer on there but was hoping the external h'drive might be a handy solution but from what i can make out on the site when i upgrade to more a suitable pc (better memory and processor) i can swap authorisation codes from one pc to another.

    Thanks for the help!

At a guess I imagine it's because you can install and authorise something on a computer and then deactivate the authorisation at a later date. Should you then decide to reactivate the authorisation on the same computer in the future all you have to do is re-enter the serial number. You don't have to re-install the whole package. So, for example, per my screenshot, I can install and authorise Superior Drummer on four computers but only two of those computers can be active at one time.

Yeah, definitely see if you can move movies, MP3s, porn, tv shows or whatever else onto your external drive.
