Just said I'd open a thread about aldi. They announced that they'll be opening 7 new stores in 2016. Has anybody any idea as to where they will be located?

It could open before year end 2015 but if not, Sallynoggin should be one of the first to open in 2016.

There's a strong unconfirmed rumour about Aldi opening in Bantry Co. Cork. It's still unconfirmed but would be a great retail boost to the town if it happens. Anyone heard anything?

There is a planning application for an aldi store in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, where the Ozone/Zinc night club used to be.

Heard off a few people reports that what used to be The Playwright, then TGI Fridays on Newtownpark avenue, Blackrock, Dublin is to become one.

Yeah very strong rumours of one opening in Kanturk Cork on the old Irish pride bakery site, which is now seriously derelict. All up in the air really

Give it 10 years and we'll be the Republic of Ireland Aldi and Lidl. These things are popping up everywhere!

Has anyone actually seen an Aldi or Lidl being built?

They seem to go up over night,

I'm thinking the sun goes down and hundreds of German workers roll into a town. By morning theres an Aldi in your town without a trace.

    Sallynoggin's getting an Aldi? Link?

This is fantastic news. Dun Laoghaire currently only has a Lidl within walking distance, and some of Aldi's stuff is fantastic.*

*It's mainly cheap booze I'm interested in here
