Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I bought 2. One for me, and one for a friend of mine who is going to show me stuff on it :)

He rang me and asked me would i be able to get it for him. He saw it on another site and was afraid they would sell out. I don't know the other site, but they must have been getting a lot of attention for him to think that.

I ordered the one. Not sure if it will work on my phone Nexus 4 - 4.3. But i'll find a home(phone) for it. I'll have to call around to yours for training on it!

My paypal was coming up as €39.something so I paid in dollars to see if my credit card will convert for cheaper.

I'll be so cool and in with the hip crowd with my smart(ish) watch .

Edit: Any clips of this working online?

    Found one

Took the plunge. Looks like its a dev kit that is being end of lifed. Only has two small display areas but I think for 40e it'll be a great tool to play around with. If I can get the display areas to show who is calling me and who has sent an sms I'll be more than happy :)

I entered my Friends company, but surely you could put anything? (Boards.ie :D)

Duty will only be a couple of euro if caught.

There is another that is initially nicer looking, but the code doesn't work. I would have gone for that one, but i think i'd be happier with the one i have, it's more of a 'classic' design.

Same here. I think you wear it on your arm and look at it to find out what time it is. Back in my day we just used our mobile phones for that!

They use DHL, so maybe 1-2 weeks?

Also, because it's DHL, that almost definitely means we'll get charged an extra €8 at the door. :(

What exactly can this watch do/be used for? Apart from the obvious, telling the time :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭omahaid

    From their website
Sample code which is an Open Source Android SDK project demonstrating watch connectivity to an Android phone. The project demonstrates watch idle screen use as well as notifications for: CallerID, SMS messages, alarms, calendar events, music control, email and IM.

Not the best video, but it gives you an idea of the functions it can perform. It doesn't perform them all in this video, it only seems to show SMS, but maybe this person had only set up basic stuff at that stage.

    So, you get this and......

    Put in on your wrist.
Pair it with your phone in your pocket.
You get a message to your phone ( which beeps or vibrates in your pocket ).
    The watch does the same.
You then remove phone from pocket and answer ( or not ) the received message.

    :confused::confused::confused::confused:

It also tells the time. :)

Here is a list of protocols the watch can do with phone.

Yea but its only €40, you could buy a Pebble Smartwatch for $150 instead. Its a gadget that's not costing a night out to buy. I dont think I'll use this that much. Buying to mess with it and might pass it on to an IT friend to see what he can do with it, once I'm bored off it that is!

    Music Playing State Message (0x18)

This message is used to tell the watch about current music playing state: either “play” or “stop”.

    Options:

    Bit7 ~ Bit1 Bit0
Reserved Music playing state (0: stopped; 1: playing)

    Well cool.

The more I read the more excited I am about getting my hands on this,

Actually programming the thing will be another matter but together we'll figure it out :D (even if I end up bricking the thing it's still a pretty nice watch for €38!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,231 ✭✭✭MuffinsDa

I am tempted but I can't figure out whether it works with iOS and iPhones. It says it doesn't on the main page but there is mention of it working with iPhones - have to read abit more / dig deeper in the forums!

Incoming call during meeting with boss, lecture, dinner with family etc. Glance at watch, see who's calling, can make a quick decision whether its important enough to answer.

On the bus, incoming SMS, oh wonder who's that from? Glance at watch, its an O2 ad to read tomorrows Irish Independent, leave phone in pocket.

    And so on :D

I jog and I'd love to get it to show my current pace from runkeeper and also to be able to pause the timing with a button press. Another project to add to my list of to-dos :D

Just bought one on a whim.

I'm guessing/hoping the community will build a rom for this that include everything the average user will need then I come along flash the rom to the watch and it works.

That's what I'm hoping anyway, I certainly cant' develop.

    From the home page:

"Meta Watch is a developer-friendly smartwatch used to heighten user engagement and drive app usage. Meta Watch, when paired with iOS (4S) or Android-based smart phones, enable new kinds of glanceable interactions. In the same way that glancing at a wristwatch is more simple than pulling out a pocket watch to check the time, glancing at Meta Watch is more convenient than pulling your phone out of a pocket or handbag to view alerts, notifications, and cloud-based information. "

There are other use-cases. You could program the accelerometer to be able to send gesture commands to another BT device. You could program the watch to vibrate and beep if it loses pairing with your phone, possibly indicating that you have left it behind. The only limitation is your imagination.

Hmmmm... one thing that's worried me now.

This is presumably coming from outside the EU - and the likes of American Eagle used to always state the product value on the invoice (i.e before discount) so am hoping Texas Instruments don't do the same here or there could be a hefty bill on our hands.

Could you send the after discount invoice and sort it that way?

The screen size to write messages is tiny... but it's interesting for its price point, looks and ability to replace the strap with standard watch straps.

For me, I'd like it to detect my location relative to my usual bus stops and use the RTPI service to say when the buses are due.

Anyone know the server URL to make requests to the Dublin bus real time information service ? ( Not the web site URL, the server URL ) ?

Also, if it has an accelerometer then it could be used to detect how often you move in your sleep, or for someone elderly/infirm, if they have moved at all in the last 60 mins... then send out an alert.

I'd imagine you can just produce your receipt when asked. Otherwise it would work out as the same price as paid for the watch.
I have had the same scenario before, i don't think i was charged anything of the original price, i'd hope that i would remember that.

    It has an accelerometer.
Also, for the Dublin Bus real time server, this guy may be able to point you in the right direction, he made the "Next Bus Dublin" App.
