Rent Payment Frequency

I'm a first time landlord letting a self contained unit on my property. I'm not sure about how to ask for rent to be paid, what is the standard? It is every four weeks or if for example it was paid today would I ask for it to be paid on the 16th of every month?

Per calendar month is the usual. So yes, same date every month.

Monthly rentals are per calendar month, so it'd be the same date every month, unless you're advertising and renting the property on a weekly basis instead of monthly. Some landlords do the latter to effectively squeeze out an extra "month's" rent per year out of tenants who are bad at math or desperate enough to rent the place anyway...
