Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is a long shot but would anyone have any leads on jobs that are only 20 hours per week? For a person that needs to ease back into work after illness.

    Thanks so much xxx

Our place has been taking on 2/3 people on a weekly basis for the last couple of months. I heard today that they are doing aptitude tests again soon. Fire a CV into the reception in Stryker with "F.A.O H.R dept" on the envelope. Don't post it, go in yourself personally. It always looks better. Some sort of mechanical background or trade will help you a lot here. Best of luck. Might meet you on the line some day

What is the interview for stryker like? Just wondering if it is technical or does it just go by your previous work experience. If its too technical i probably wouldnt get the job, so there would be no point applying.

I worked in dell a few years ago and that interview was grand. Just education and where you have worked before, so if it is like that i will hand in a CV.

Is it a good idea to print off a lot of CV's and hand them out in town? I really need to get weekend/evening work asap.

by default handing them in is always better than post or email. shows you are making an effort. Just be sociable when you hand them in as well.

What you are trying to do is covertly influence an employer and doing that can work.

Having said that, such is the amount of CVs being sent or handed in, the chance of a job is low for all of us, as in we all have the same chance. You could get lucky though

Hello everyone, I have a bit of a problem. I have been offered the opportunity to pursue a PhD and the tuition fees for this year have been covered. This is, of course, great news. However, I need to find a way to feed myself while I pursue this opportunity. To that end I have been searching for jobs - unfortunately, there does not seem to be much out there that will fit with me trying to study simultaneously.

Some additional information/obstacles - I do not drive so I need to try to stay within the city bus limits from Limerick city centre and I occasionally need to travel to conferences to present work/papers. My masters is in music technology and my PhD research has to do with the applications of evolutionary computing to creative tasks so arts/media/computer/technical skills are quite good, I'm terrible at sales but generally good at customer service, I'm quite tall so stocking high shelves on evenings or weekends plays right into my wheelhouse. Anyway, you get the idea.

So I thought I'd ask - Does anyone know of any part-time work in Limerick that might suit someone who is studying full time at the same time? Any information/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

youd have a better chance of finding oil on henry street than work stocking shelves. the minimum wage market is saturated. You can try, but you will have to sell yourself like a one legged hooker

Yeah, that's more or less what I'm finding. The thing is I'd be overqualified for those types of jobs, but it's pretty difficult to find something willing to work around my academic requirements.

thats the reality of the situation. There are jobs, but there are too many people applying for them.

If you know someone it helps. Ive been apply and handing in cvs for my line of work and nothing. All i can do is ride it out.

I don't think there is anything more depressing than applying for jobs like a lunatic and not hearing a thing back. I'm on the verge of cracking up! I can't even get something on the jobs bridge sc(heme)am! :D

And a few English, Polish, Dutch, Nigerian, French, German, Australian, Chinese, Indian etc.

I could be here all day naming out the various nationalities I've seen working in Lidl Ireland. My own local Lidl has many Irish working there

Irish would be definitely in the minority there..per head of population id say there is definitely and under representation of Irish staff.. Im not sure why

I would imagine that Aldi and Lidl hire the best candidates who apply. It's in their interest to do so.

Perhaps Irish people don't apply, for whatever reason. Or perhaps Irish people do apply, but they are not considered the best. Or perhaps it's not true that Irish people are under-represented on their staff.

Whatever the case, I've always found the staff in those stores to be excellent, irrespective of nationality.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,874 ✭✭✭padma

I never said anything about their skills or lack thereof or how great or bad I found the staff. I just stated that yes, there would in the main be non nationals working in those stores. Your theory seems plausible..Another theory could be somewhere in the hiring there may or may not be a bias towards having a majority non national multicultural culture there.

I would find it hard to believe however that there is a lack of retail Irish staff skilled enough to work there, but, who knows. Though if its 20% non nationals in the country maybe having 80% non national staff COULD suggest a bias.

Either way I love Lidl, find it great value..Staff are overworked, can be a bit of a queue at the counter but am used to it nowadays anyway.

Hi Guys, Can anyone advise on how I could access the university of Limerick from Dublin, I intend travelling by Train. I'm asking particularly which of the stops I'm to get off.

    Thank you.

You're probably better off travelling by bus. You'll be there quicker and it's much cheaper. The bus (www.dublincoach.ie) will drop you at the university.

If you must travel by train, then go all the way to Limerick (Colbert) Station, and you can get a taxi from there, or you can walk to William Street (about 1km away) and get a bus to the university.

But, really, the bus is your best option.

Many thanks Zulu. Really helpful- particularly as I could get the bus straight up to the Uni.

    Cheers!

Any civil engineering jobs coming near Limerick or surrounding counties? Or where to look/apply besides the usual job sites? Brother just finished up in a job in Dublin and is desperate for work.

Argos/dunnes/boots would all have season work coming up at the moment. Also costa coffee is opening soon on cruises street.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭Roquentin

no offense but id say costa will be inundated with CVs, easily about 500.

i myself moved to limerick to find work and havent even got a sniff other than a jobbridge. the brother who was based in limerick decided he had enough and emigrated and found work straight away.

it depends on what work one is looking for, but the minimum wage market is saturated

It depends what kind of jobs you're looking for. In general, jobs are still quite scarce, but if you can get one Limerick is a much better place to live than Dublin, in my opinion.
