Just a reminder to you that the National and All Ireland Field Championships are taking place at the end of this month just north of Edenderry in Co. Kildare. The host club is the Irish Archery Club and details can be found on their website http://irisharcheryschool.com/. There is a special category for archers from the schools or universities who are new to the sport of Field Archery and this allows you to shoot on shorter distance pegs. The maximum distance for this category is 30m. You are warmly invited to come along and try something a little different; if your experience up to now has been limitted to target archery.

anyone coming to the event will be given a card showing the maximum distances for the marked and unmarked rounds for the red, blue, white and yellow pegs.. the course is laid out for cadets as well... was out at the wood yesterday and by the end of next week it will look even better.. new green leaves on the beech trees and thousands of bluebells celendines and primroses in full bloom.. and a fun shoot too.. I believe the forcast is for warm dry weather to (fingers crossed).. If you havn't shot field before then this shoot is a must and don't worry about loosing arrows... any missed arrows will be found and returned to you somehow.. this is the one to come to guys

Will there be practice butts there in the morning?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35 Scottish Rob

Yes there will be practice butts for everyone and we are planning on a rolling start so that those that have further to travel don't hold back those arriving early.. the routine will be that as soon as a team of three or four can be made from archers from more than 1 club and their equipment has been inspected they will be started on the course. The course is laid out in a figure of eight so bags and lunch etc can be left at the stewards tent to avoid loading yourself. The competition is an arrowhead and Irish record world ranking status so faces must be marked. Each archer will be given a card showing maximum distances etc and a sheet of instruction etc for scoring so that new archers don't feel intimidated or lost by the different set up.. It will highlight, for example, that only 3 arrows are shot at each target and that the maximum score for these three would be 18 points....

thousands of bluebells in full bloom

FYI: The bluebell is known in field archery circles as "the bow thrasher". These things are as slippery as feic - be careful if ya gota walk on them! ;)

They can get very slippery when squashed which is partly why all the paths have been set out around them where possible.. the other reason is that they look much better unsquashed....see you there

Just a reminder to you that although entries will be accepted on the day, (if there is space), an early booking will guarantee you don't have a long journey for nothing... we are very glad to announce that there is a large number of archers travelling down from the North for this event !

Great shoot lads, very enjoyable and ye got some good trick shots built into the course! Think the signature shot of the course will be the extream uphill marked shot!

Everyone that I've talked to thought the course was excellent - well done!

    :):D:)

Thanks for coming and joining us .. glad you enjoyed it and congratulations on your score :)... Just wait till the next shoot at the end of the year when we will make sure everything is right and running smoothly and include the other evil bastard shots that we had to pull.. (and a few more new ones).. Thanks to all the guys who got the shoot back on track as quickly as they did and saved the day on Sunday.... steep uphill?.. oh that one :) have you never tried clout shooting before then :)
