Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Epoxy Resin Wood Color Stain

    Hello everyone,

Hoping some one might have experienced this before.

I've poured some clear epoxy resin mixed with a blue color in natural wood cracks in a piece I'm working on. It's turned out great so far, but in one particular place the resin seemed to get under the painters tape and has left dried blue stains in the wood. See picture.

I'm almost down to the bone on the fingers using 30 and 60 sand paper to see if I can get to the bottom of the stain, I've also used a palm sander with same grits but don't appear to be able to shift it. While it has cleaned up no end I'm still seeing that blue stain. The next step will be to clear varnish everything and I'm anticipating the stains will become even brighter once varnished.

I can live with this, if that's the way it ends up, but does anyone know of any way to remove the stains other than what I've tried? Are they just built in at this point and it's going to have to be a lesson learned?

    Thanks everyone.

The only way i know of getting rid of that is either sand the S+++ out of it ( which you have already tried) or wood bleaching, but you run the risk of the bleach weeping into the crack

I watch a furniture restorer on Youtube and for any kind of stains in wood, he always uses oxalic acid.

Plenty of tutorials on Youtube if you want to give it a go.

    Thanks lads,

I hope the Epoxy would hold up to the bleach or oxalic alright, I guess use a very small bit to test first make sure there's no major staining or adhesion loss  . I'll take a look at a few videos online and see what we can see. Thanks lads, really appreciate the help.
