Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not true. The ruler function on Google Earth is cool. You should try it.

As the crow flies, you are a few miles closer to Cork than you are to John O' Groats in NE Scotland.

Actually, your even closer to my house in South Carlow than you are to Aberdeen.

Actually i'm closer to the most northern point in scotland than the most southern point in this island! I'm even closer to girvan than newcastle, county down.

With all due respect, whether someone lives closer to edinburgh than castlebar etc. is not contributing anything to this thread.

GFS is not looking so positive now for next week although it certainly won't be as unsettled as this week. Things will improve gradually but we may have to wait another week to ten days before we see anything resembling June's weather.

we are two weeks away yet and the signs are promising for it to settle down, just not as quickly as initially believed

this really is turning out to be just like the winter charts watch,we were all getting excited about the charts forecast for a week ahead but it just kept being pushed out into FI,this summer is going the same way,the charts are really getting to the point were they are useless anything further out than a couple of days, imo :o
have been watching intensely for this weekend's forecast as the motorcycle road racing is on at my local circuit Kells, the forecast and charts have changed nearly every day this week and at present it looks like pot luck with the chance of rain Sunday in the area but also a good chance it will stay dry?!?!?!?!

Ken Ring on the radio now saying basically we've had our summer and peak temperatures (in June)! No hot or long dry periods for the rest of July or August. :(

Well, I would settle for ONE dry day in July - with maybe a wee bit of notice so that I can put together a picnic. Not one single day without rain at some point here in weeks - most days (like today) are steadily pouring :( It's the constant greyness that is so depressing ...

I wondered if he was referring to some people on this forum when he talked about having some detractors.

Funny enough, the one time ive had heat stroke was in Ireland at Brittas Bay back in the late 70's. I didnt think the weather would get to me, but this being my 3rd summer here, it has :(

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,966 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

the good weather of June is long forgotten now, it seems like we've been in this endless train of rain and showers all summer and looks like there is no signs of any improvement despite reports earlier in the week of a possible dry spell.

ye but it's come to the point over the last 4 years where our summer months are by far the wettest and miserable months of the year. Winter and Autumn may be cooler but they are always much dryer.

I've resigned myself to summers being relatively poor now. Any more than 3 weeks of good sunny weather is a bonus imo. That said,Autumn in my favourite season. I love the crisp air and relatively mild temps.:)

My hot water bottle has been put back into service and the fire is being lit in the evenings. I need a coat when I go out - for both rain and cold. It's like late autumn, not high summer :( The postman said to me earlier on: 'Pretend the good weather is still to come'. To me that would be worse - false hope and all that. Better to face facts and pretend (accept) that the summer is over and carry on appropriately.

That's a very handy site - thanks for posting. The icon for night with the sun shining is a wee bit strange ;) but I suppose it means not cloudy  For my area, it looks as if the only time the sun will be shining is at night :D Maybe I should get up and sunbathe then.

OMG! Whatever i don't care anymore the days are getting shorter, we might aswell look forward to the winter knowing that it'll be colder than the dreaded south east! (hopefully.)

Well london got hit alot worse than anywhere on the island of ireland during dec-jan , a northerly would prob leave them without anything , but would do the same to me!

Did coleraine get a storm last night? Was under the impression that no storms developed overland , i tought it was all developed out to sea and then diminished as came overland?

My brother in London would kill for the kind of weather we're having for his allotment. Everything is parched and people are feeling melted. If only we could swap around for a while ...

An improvement in still on the cards for next weekend with the Azores high pressure building north. the GFS outlook suggests it'll stick around but its too far out to make any promises.
