The Iranians have a history of this sort of stuff tbh. Look i don't want to see a war but let's not make out like the Iranians are angels, they are nasty pieces of work of the lowest kind.

Iranians are good people and so too are Americans. There are also good members of government in both but sadly also hardliner filth with a view of the world similar to Gilead in The Handmaid's Tale. I bet that hardliners in Iran AND America would cooperate to cause a war to get the moderate elements in both countries replaced by themselves.

The Iran situation is going too slow for Israel. Israel would be pushing Trump. I don't think Iran are that stupid as to provoke a war.
Israel want Iran dismantled, the quicker the better. The world sits by with trade interests such as the U.K. nodding along.
As always it'll be the average American/Iranian Joe who does the dying.

Its highly likely that Iran thwarted another tanker attack by shooting down the drone.

What else are they flying drones for when they got the sky full of satellites!.

Trump has tweeted on Twitter "Iran made a very big mistake!

Some reports- a military response will be announced in the coming hours after Trump finishes his meetings with military leaders. We see if the reports online are correct?

They'll likely try force Iran's hand by bullying them rather than firing first I reckon. If they were going to use the tanker attack they'd have already attacked Iran.

Yeah he'd want to be careful of that kind of "warning". It's the type of stupid thing that can land people in a conflict they didn't really want and that wouldn't be good for his re-election.

Iran have twigged what kind of idiot they are dealing with and will restrict themselves to words. I don't know how they can bully them into anything. I see one person driving this - Bolton.

Cause drones can get far high res images than the latter, also can provide real time uplink of images and video. Plus that particular drone can "see" through clouds and works at night as this is when it was shot down.

RQ-4 are also unarmed and have no weapons systems or targeting systems.

    Tinfoil hat off.

Most likely it was marking targets for future cruise missile strikes.

On sky news they said Tucker Carlson is advising Trump on Iran, and he is telling him to not get involved militarily. John Bolton and Mike Pompeo are said to support military action and Trump was against it.

Yes he does but it doesn't have a gaming licence so its no good for such a conference.

If Iran was trying to proclaim that they didn't attack the ships, would it be a good idea to show their capability to shoot down drones?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,265 ✭✭✭✭smurfjed

Where exactly can the USA attack Iran from? Yep I've seen that map a few posts ago, but it doesn't show the terrain.

Apart from that, Iranian people are some of the nicest, most educated and fun people that I have ever met from the Middle East, i would hate to see their country go the same way as Syria.

Bolton is mad for a war.

Can't imagine Trump and the American public want one.

My OH is Iranian so I am slightly biased. The only options would be a ground invasion, which is pretty impossible due to the terrain or air strikes or nukes, which would be kinda genocide-y.

That Iran could hit this drone which reportedly is designed to operate at 60,000 feet is quite impressive.
Their air defences may be far better than thought.

They seem up to now to have been following the advice of Sun Tzu in "The art of war".

"hide your strength, show weakness, a surprised enemy is a beaten enemy".

    Yes russian made and supplied.

Shooting down a slow moving surveillance drone is nothing spectacular in this day and age ,
big difference between Iran and Russia's who's biggest claim to fame is shooting down flight MH17 over Ukraine.

Be interested to see how brave Iran actually get before they get a bloody nose

Iran has stated they want Israel wiped off the face of the earth, let's not pretend the Iranians are walking around with halos on their heads.

Exactly, Israel gets to be unopposed and has a free hand in the middle east if Iran is destroyed.
And America gets to destabilise Europe with the resulting millions of refugees streaming into it.

Their hope is this will lead to the breakup of the EU and make Europe divided and weak again...and hence easy for the neocons to dictate to and manage.

They have already shown their attitude to the EU by their constant nudging of Britain to leave without a deal and promising them a 'great deal' with America if they do.

What the regime says and what normal Iranians say is a different matter. In fact Iran has one of the largest and longest established Jewish communities in the middle east.

    200%.

You would wonder why Trump, who was on record saying he wanted to drain the swamp, would appoint someone like Bolton, so established and ingrained into DC, who again and again says regime change is his ultimate goal in Iran.

John Bolton = a third Bond villain type, a third corrupt politician and a third Gileadean Commander type. He is facilitating wars aimed at regime change for dodgy corrupt exiled rebel groups such as Mojahedin E Khalq in Iran's case for years. Draining the swamp should mean getting rid of guys like him but Trump's 'drain the swamp' was about as sincere as 'we gotta clean up Gilead, son' in 'The Handmaid's Tale'. America's addiction to meddling in other countries and war will be a problem long after Trump leaves office and will be a problem with both parties (heard from BOTH Republicans and Democrats on a programme earlier and both were as bad as each other).

Like most republicans warhawks, he skipped Vietnam when it was his time to serve, Bush , Cheney, Wolfowitz, bolton , all the architects of the iraq war they seemingly had better things do be doing when their country was at war with Vietnam. They love fighting war with other people's blood .

Sorry its linked to fox, couldn't find it anywhere else. She is masterfully having a good dig at trump, by talking about high tension wires. trump is out of his depth entirely here. If only they could get the backing of pence, they could remove trump using the 25th Amendment. Now is the time for it, before he starts a war with Iran.

Anyone who thinks Iran attacked an oil tanker from a nation who's leader they were hosting at the time of the attack in an effort to improve relationships amid unwarranted US sanctions, is a ****ing moron.

There are two antagonists in this invented conflict, and neither of them are Iran.

It's pretty common occurrence , the question has to be asked what happens of they hit a civilian airliner in international waters while shooting at drones

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

So trump cleared airstrikes against Iran ,but withdrew the strike orders minutes before launching aircraft in the region ,

Looks like sooner or later Iran will be hit by some kind of limited strikes in retaliation

He is petulant and childish so it's quite justified. He hardly acts or behaves like a statesman should. It's his original family name besides, before they changed it to blend in in the US, so ****ing what?
