While driving the mortor way between cork and Dublin there are several signs for services, these are the brown signs with services in white.

however some (not all) of the petrol pumps have what could almost be described as a green shadow.....
can anyone tell me what this means??

In the early days of unleaded petrol, the green pump logo signified that the petrol station sold this as well as Super and diesel. Not sure what the significance is now -- maybe they're just using an old template.

There should be no shadow. It is not permitted under current regs
