Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    With the Coronavirus cancelling all boxing for the foreseeable anyone else filling their time this week by watching some older fights?

    In the last week I've watched:

    Duran v Hagler/Barkley/De Jesus III
    Whitaker v Chavez/De La Hoya
    Holyfield v Bowe I
    Matthew Saad Muhammad v John Conteh I
    Bradley v Provodnikov
    Floyd v Corrales

    Few notes:

    Duran v Barkley is my favourite fight of all time. Unbelievable that Duran got that type of performance out of himself at 37, far above his best weight.

    I don't think there's a robbery that angers me more than Whitaker v Chavez. Punch perfect performance by Whitaker against the best in the world at the time. Incredible performance.

    If there was only one boxer's career I could rewatch for the rest of my life it might be Matthew Saad Muhammad.

    Floyd v Corrales is probably the best performance of the last 20 years. Didn't lose a minute against a P4P top 5 fighter at the time. Flawless.

    My favourite all time fight remain Duran vs Leonard 1

    That was 2 elite guys going at it at close to their peaks.

    Toney-Nunn: excellent technical masterpiece. Non stop as well.

    McGuigan-Pedroza. What an event.

    SRL-Hearns 1981. Super scrap.

    Coralles-Mayweather. If you want to see why Floyd would be almost unbeatable at 130, watch this.

    Gatti-Ward 1

    Hagler-Mugabi. Loved it.

    Chavez-Taylor for the day that’s in it. Patrick’s day 1990.

    Qawi-Holyfield 1. FOTY 1986...

    Domestic: I loved Froch-Groves 1. And looking back with measure, Foster got it bang on right with the stoppage.

    Sal Sanchez-Wilfredo Gomez one of my favorites. Sal was some fighter..

    And my personal choice of best fight I have seen is Bowe-Holyfield 1...

    Bowe vs Holyfield 1 is a great shout gonna throw that on now.

    Euro level at best warrior type. Half way through a prison sentence now unfortunately. Fought on far too long given his style.

    Naz v Kevin Kelley is a proper classic. Must watch that at least once a year.

    Other must watch slugfests that don't even reach halfway:

    Hagler v Hearns
    Lennox v Vitali
    Vasquez v Marquez II
    Zarate v Zamora
    Pacquiao-Marquez IV
    Foreman v Lyle

    Thanks to this thread it took me away from all the coronavirus stuff for an hour.

    Just watched Bowe vs Holyfield 1 in full.

    Bowe was so fit - he outlasted Evander and threw more punches, 700 in total. Great power, great jab and great inside game too. Lovely uppercuts and turns when inside.

    Evander showed great heart, fitness and durability but only seemed able to fight in bursts.

    Bowe showed some of his mental weaknesses too- hitting Evander with Low blows when the fight wasn’t going his way.

    Big George on commentary and Lennox Lewis right there at the end in Bowes face calling him ‘ Chicken Bowe’ . It’s a snapshot of better times in heavyweight history.

    Just watched Trinidad v Vargas.

    Hadn't seen it in a long time. Great fight with plenty of drama but more one-sided than I remember. Only gave Vargas two rounds. Prime Trinidad at that weight was some fighter, just far too fast and far too strong for Vargas really.

    Quartey- Oscar another good scrap....

    The biggest fight of the 90s outside the HW division was Oscar-Tito at 147....

    Massive event. Very good fight that Oscar threw away by running the last 3 rds..

    Froch V Paschal.
    Not many would probably choose this one, but it was toe to toe action for much of the fight.
    Corrales v Castillo was another one that springs to mind.

    also a more recent one, was Ugonoh v Breazeale, it was a war while it lasted

    I’m late to the party been so busy this last week. Watched the Holyfield Bowe 1 what a great fight. Bowe was a great boxer that jab!! Always thought early 90s Bowe takes Lewis but he left himself very open. Lewis was great at finding a big shot

    I think Bowe was afraid of Lewis. Lewis had him beaten before they every stepped foot in the ring. If you look up toughness, there should be a picture of Holyfield under the definition.

    For me personally, Tyson v Berbick in the heavyweights...

    But overall...I think the 90's supermiddleweights, Collins, Eubank, Benn ...
    throw in Watson, Close etc and these were the fights that got the blood pumping for me..
    Collin's v Eubank was 25 years ago last week... feels like it was only yesterday

    Julio Cesar Chavez v Frankie Randall 1 was a great fight

    And kind of historic, as Frankie became the first man to beat JCC. I think JCC was 89-0-1 at the time.....
